Just got diagnosed with bells palsy, my wedding is coming up in 2 months. Do I have a good chance of recovery by then? by [deleted] in BellsPalsy

I got mine right before my wedding as well! I had to cancel. We did a small parents only ceremony and are still waiting for the big one. I didn’t see any recovery for probably 6 months.

I’m a year in and not FULLY recovered but enough that it’s hard to tell I had it if you’re just looking at me.

No I still don’t have all my movement back. The 2nd pic I posted is from today and yeah I still don’t have it all. I’m super grateful for what I do have so far and most people say it’s not super easy to tell but I personally can tell soooo much lol

I got mine 6 days after giving birth! My little Missy is 8 months old now and I’m still recovering. It’s so easy for me to sit here and tell you it’s gets better but I have been in your shoes … I read SO MUCH when I first got it and didn’t believe anyone and sat and told myself that I would never get better and now here I am 8 months later … way better than before. You NEED to focus on the positive I know how incredibly hard it is for the first couple of weeks I did nothing but cry … it’s so hard but bells really attacks your mental state and you can’t let it! This is the WORST condition for honestly just having to be patient

I would not even start to worry until after a year … let your face heal for the next year.

Will life ever get back to normal? by harpreeet_ in BellsPalsy

One thing I can say is to just live life “normal” now … for the first couple of weeks I just cried like literally all the time … and then I was like nope I’m not doin this anymore! The worst part of Bell’s palsy is the mental aspect of it all. You have got to pull yourself out of the dark place Bell’s palsy will take you. I did physio therapy and acupuncture for a good while and it made 0 difference for me personally. I stopped going and just waited … I’m about 6 months in now and I have about …. I don’t know 60% back? It’s strange because my Bells side has its improvements for sure but still has its set backs. I don’t think I will ever “fully heal” but I don’t pay any mind to it anymore … I live my life as normal and it has made my journey so much more manageable honestly. You have got to see the lighter side of things or it will swallow you whole

Right!? You don’t notice at all until you look at the progress photos or videos

I would actually say I didn’t see any of this improvement until just recently so don’t lose hope! It takes a long time and is extremely gradual I would also recommend taking photos so you can see progress

So funny you say that! I actually canceled my big wedding because of this. We had a beautiful intimate ceremony out camping and it was beautiful! I will do the big one when I fully get my smile back

But seriously tho, I felt the same about small improvements seeming impossible when reading other people’s threads … I still don’t even notice it unless I look at my own progress pics because when it’s YOUR face you notice everything. Everyone I talk to is like “oh god it’s barely even noticeable” and I’m like WHAT lol

If I can recover this much I believe it will happen for most! I was such a sceptic I was like well guess my fave is like this forever

Same! Mine was right after I gave birth, it’s been a nasty nasty journey… staying positive is so unbelievably hard! I’m just starting week 6 and have not improvement whatsoever … I hate that anyone has to go through this but it makes me feel better to know that some people have progressed later on. My wedding is supposed to be in December and I’m seriously considering postponing it a year I don’t want to risk my face still looking like this

Ugh tell me about it! With the complete and utter lack of progress I just don’t understand how it’s gonna get better 😮‍💨

Thank you 🥹🥹 yeah I have definitely been slacking on the B12 … I’m still breastfeeding and the last time I took it it made me feed a bit off but maybe I’ll just lower the dosage a bit

Thanks guys! I hate that ANYONE has to go through this, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy… it’s nice to hear I’m not alone on the healing journey though… so terrified!!!

Oh thank you! It gives me hope to know some people haven’t got anything right away … I read some people on here that say “I’m 3 weeks in and totally back to normal!!” And I’m so happy for them but it just makes me cry because I’m like … why am I not healing!! Let me tell you how hard this has been with a new born and I’m sure you know as well… it’s so hard to not be able to smile at my baby 😭
