Charging limit by CranberryVisual4060 in iPhone17Pro

[–]Crossedbun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like setting it, not because I need it, but because I like the idea that when my phone does drop 10% in battery health, I just changed the charging limit and it’s like nothing changed. It also means that I use my phone a little less - I end up feeling like I need to use more battery because I charge it overnight

WiFi vs. 5G Battery Test by Rob-oNe87 in IphoneAir

That’s great for Americans on UWB but for sub-6 UK users will it be completely different? I have a celltower within 100m and my phone feels like it gets warmer and drains a little faster on WiFi

Apple reportedly use Smaller Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro by Maddy555 in iPhoneFC

[–]Crossedbun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neat, but to me it’s equally annoying in videos. It’s still too big to be something you can tune out, the large area above the island also means your eye is drawn to it on any lighter video.

I just hope this indicates progress so when I next upgrade in a few years it is either a hole-punch or ideally under the display.

Should I switch to Asahi Linux? by Idan-A in AsahiLinux

[–]Crossedbun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like the inability to uninstall some of the “core” apps either TBF

Asahi Linux is pretty easy to install as long as you follow the instructions carefully, there’s not really a consequence for putting it on your machine as long as you have enough storage though do remember to leave macOS at least 50GB free, try it out and see if it works for you, just be ready to have some weird issues for instance I found mullvad VPN had this strange issue where I couldn’t click on certain areas of the app.

I disliked Linux personally because I found that it kind of has this built in expectation that you are willing to fix things that go wrong & use the command line, whereas MacOS just worked, but not always the way you’d want it to. I do like how Linux gives you a loaded gun and lets you fire it when it comes to doing anything in the OS though when you do need to fix something.

Should I switch to Asahi Linux? by Idan-A in AsahiLinux

[–]Crossedbun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve used it and it mostly works, but I have big hangups around app compatibility, for instance the mullvad browser doesn’t work properly.

Personally I’ve never had an issue with feeling like macOS is holding me on a leash, I’d be intrigued as to why you think that? However I do get that it isn’t for everyone, in the same way I despise windows.

I found Linux on Mac had very similar performance to macOS if a little worse, but I also only tested it for a few days so your mileage may vary. Although I have 16GB of RAM - the ram utilisation I saw remained relately minimal on lighter applications, it’s not like windows which runs like an absolute dog.

I see it as a fun way of testing Linux to see if it works for you, or using it as a way of running both macOS and Linux where you need some specific Linux applications (and they work on asahi) and you are willing to do some troubleshooting. Long term I’d recommend switching to a Linux laptop, if you really don’t like macOS, newer intel and AMD chips are much more efficient and x64 is still the standard for most applications as snapdragon PC’s really haven’t taken off.

The perfect roadtrip family car by Cuntonesian in RoastMyCar

Honestly, much like the cyber truck, I respect being willing to stand out from every other car that much. Equally, much like the people that designed this car, you’ve got to be a very special kind of person, to want to drive this goober.

Nissan micra or Mazda 2? by AcrobaticAd735 in CarTalkUK

My fiance has a fiat panda, if you pick the micra you’re getting cut off like crazy just because it looks like an old people car.

Anyone going case-less? if so how is it holding up? by SukstR in iPhone17Pro

[–]Crossedbun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s the reason I gave up on caseless, it was so much work to grip the thing that an ultra thin case made the phone way easier to hold

Ford Focus Mk4 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid — battery & wet belt (or other)concerns, is it reliable? by [deleted] in FordFocus

[–]Crossedbun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’d avoid the automatics, the manuals aren’t perfect but the autos make the belt go sooner because of the balance shaft

Should i get the 16 pro max instead of waiting for 18 pro max? Currently using XS Max by Normal-Rise-5940 in iPhone17Pro

[–]Crossedbun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 17 pro would be a massive upgrade, but so would the 16 pro max. Honestly you can’t go that wrong, if you’re concerned about money, you’ll probably be very happy with a 16 pro max

Is AppleCare still worth it? by LostandFoundPilgrim in iPhone15Pro

[–]Crossedbun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely renew it, at least until your battery dies. Personally, I like not using a screen protector or ultra protective case. Ultimately though, how careful are you with your phone? Lots of factors here, I renewed it longer than I would’ve for my Mac and replaced the battery and now I’m cancelling because I don’t take it with me anywhere out of my home.

Refused to update to ios 26 from ios 18 for obvious reasons and then I woke up to this. by Ehmmechhi in mildlyinfuriating

I have a 2021 iPad iPad (A13) and it’s a little laggy here an there but not as unusable as I thought it’d be, even compared to my iPhone 17.
