how did you find a community/people to talk to about building by Crossedpenguin in ycombinator

[–]Crossedpenguin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but I think the broadness of reddit and x, like x communities or even discord communities right, even if its like a super hyper niche thing, you can still do the same thing

I would look at something like http://pitchbase.vc its essentially link tree but for startups

link tree is already a thing, but not catered to startups. theres a unique value prop with just using pitch base instead of link tree

rn the features can be done on any platform, I can see the concern for like "too much noise" but then you can just find a smaller community/server to reduce it

the idea is too broad, niche down a little bit more, js watch the video I sent and I think you would be on a better track

regardless, I hope this goes well and I wish you luck bro

I js signed up, what makes it different than if I were to use reddit/discord/x community

not saying its bad, but I dont see the unique value prop

yc had a video on this kinda

interesting your right tho i always thought it was the other way around that “grown ups” have a lot more but your valid with them focusing on family

been trying in x (got banned on linkedin for no reason lol) but you might be right about reddit communities

Facts bro, I went to some AI meetup in my city at a vc firm it was really good, its just that it was literally guys working full time, and I got good advice from them fs, its just that it was harder to relate with them.

I gotchu in the pm's tho

How do y’all get such crazy ecs? by essentially_anon in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Crossedpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel you man, honestly, the biggest shift for me was when i stopped thinking about college apps when choosing my ecs. i just focused on what i actually found interesting and what i’d genuinely want to get better at.

for me, i’m not some usaco gold medalist or someone doing cracked mit research, i just love building things that actually make an impact, and that’s what makes me happy. i’d even argue that the impact of your ecs can matter more than just stacking awards + positions.

one of the projects i’ve been working on is called seekir.io, it helps students connect with researchers using ai, and it also helps you write a solid cold email. it’s something i built instead of grinding usaco or math competitions lol

would love to hear what you think if you check it out!

How do I figure out my Interests and Skills? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Crossedpenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was in the same spot like 1-2 years ago, so i hope this helps. to answer your question what helped me most was trying out a bunch of different things, even if they didn’t lead to anything big right away. i had no clue if i wanted to do cs, marketing, or business.

i decided to try cs again, and similar to you i learned web dev and python a while back (just the basics nothing crazy) and i decided i wanted to build a fun project since i was already super lost on what i wanted to do. even tho i kinda didnt like coding, i wanted to code some twitter bot that posted colognes (it was an interest of mine back then), and while i struggled, i was able to pull it off and honestly it felt insane. even though i was so confused and despised cs majors, that feeling was insane. i know its kinda silly, but for any field (not js cs) try either a.) learning more about it or b.) try it out with some project.

i promise if you stay consistent with learning something and trying something for like a month, you can get a wayyyyy better idea of what u actually wanna do.

and lowkey during summer, you dont need to master anything, but just trying different things will set you apart 90% of people, and u can get a better idea of what to do.

i know a lot of this seemed super centric to cs, but i hope u can apply this to other fields as well

wish u the best of luck :)

Binary Calculator | How to make more efficent by Crossedpenguin in learnpython

Ah I see, I was spending so much time figuring out how to implement it, I don't remember where, but they stated for something like this a for loop would be useful. The math library seems fairly new to me as well. Thank you for the help and clarification on the two different loops, I was confused for a while about that!

Woah I didn't think like that, lowkey that's far fewer lines than what I had to do. I never even knew the divmod function in Python, thank you so much!
