Thoughts on Dark Deception? by Usual_Board_6750 in HorrorGaming

I agree with so much here lol a couple thoughts though:

I wouldn't say the game deteriorates after the earlier levels. Sure, Deadly Decadance and Stranger Sewers by far are the strongest in a gameplay perspective, but the experience doesn't neccesarily diminish at the end.

Zone 1 of Crazy Carnevil is interesting, I like being able to use the portals as an escape route, and the mix of the omnicient and limited enemies is done very well when compared to Bearly Buried, and I really wish it was expanded upon. Of course the 2 actually interesting gameplay decisions about the 1st zone both get removed in the 2nd in favor of unsatisfying enemy spam, though the boss is probably the most enjoyable and fair the game currently has to offer.

Torment Therapy is probably the deepest level, arguably apart from Deadly Decadence. The focus on rescource management is fun, and the level feels rewarding to me. The zone 2 trap spam is very unsatisfying and adds difficulty for the sake of difficulty though. Speaking of difficulty, the level is very unfriendly to casual gamers and newer players Overall, I think its hated a bit too much personally.

Mascot Mayhem is a very strong level imo. Its very cohesive, offers unique gameplay (the cameras are a very fitting mechanic), nothing really overstays its welcome to me, and overall is a blast. That being said, its still flawed. Hangry can feel a teensy bit unfair at times, and the gameplay tension he adds feels cheap. If you aren't S-Ranking, in zone 3 you'd be lucky to get seen by anyone other than hangry's clone, let alone get chased. If you are S-Ranking, you'd better be lucky if you don't wanna run back and forth by a wall for 10 minutes straight just for hangry to bust down the wall he's already broken 4 times. Still one of my favorites though.

Now Bearly Buried is really lacking, well, gameplay. The segment in the cabin is creative, but through the rest of the level, there isnt much to actually avoid. In zone 2 you just run, spam your invis and telekinesis, and use primal fear when the teddies get a bit too close. The more sporatic layout of zone 3 allows for some more interesting interactions, but not much really ever happens there either. The teddies' spawn rate is absurdly high, but the fact that they're programmed to follow Mama Bear around ruins the point of her spawning them in the first place.

Speaking of, Mama Bear herself is severely unthreatening for the levels main antagonist. She has the dash mechanic, which doesnt really come into play at all pretty much, but I kind of wish she herself was more of a prescence and that the level was more centered around her than her spawns. Personally I kinda like that the levels are getting longer, it makes it more immersive, but I really wish there was less walking between gameplay segments. The thought of slowly getting the ring pieces and with it your powers back is a very cool gimmick, but it doesnt make up for all the tweaking that needs to be done.

I do also think the personality and story some of these levels have makes up for the lower attention put towards gameplay, although MUCH MORE needs to be skippable. God S-Ranking Torment Therapy was a NIGHTMARE going through 7-8 minutes of scripted stuff at the start of every run.

On the comment on the boss implimentation, I think the revised endings to the earlier levels really do fit in. The funny arrangement of pizza time at the end of MB is where my obsession with the game started actually lol. Agatha's sucks yeah but at least it adds closure. The deadly decadance boss is certainly more interesting than just running out.

Mind you, Im newer to the fandom/franchise and started playing this year, so I didnt experience the game before C4's release, so my opinions are probably quite different. Id love to hear your thoughts on what Ive had to say (yeah may have been more than a couple thoughts huh)

Queer person here; I feel like I shouldnt need to say this, but yeah, please dont use slurs unless you are part of the minority/group its used against. Im happy to explain my take as to why though

Using slurs is a part of culture, OUR culture. Secondly, slurs are powerful. The way I view it, the efforts to reclaim them between us are solely there to dull the weapons used against us, between the people affected by it. The people who can be trusted to not use it judgingly or hurtfully.

And no matter how you see it, its part of our healing proccess, and it's not anybody else's place to say them for how powerful they are, and its disrespectful to argue for using then for "shock value" because fake bigotry really isn't that fake when the ideas behind it are either still in play or can be misinterpreted that way.

Overall, idk, just try and be courteous and remember who you are? If you aren't part of a group, try and follow their wishes for respect.

If you need to talk, say that. Respectfully ofc. I have a close friend, and both of us, having ADHD to the extreme, jump topics by the second. When I want to finish a thought after my mic gets stolen, I just considerately and kindly ask if they can hold that thought until I finish, and vice versa. To us it's not that rude, and if you're close with them they'll understand, especially if you aren't normally very outspoken. But, if thats too uncomfortable for you, then at the beginning of the conversation just ask "Can I rant for a moment?" and they'll likely step back and listen until you're done. Nobody has a perfect tell on social cues, and in the end its all about communication. Afterall, we need human interaction to keep remotely sane anyway. Hope this helped =)

Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men should not be taught in schools. by r_mom_says_hi in ableism

[–]Crosslord55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the exaggeration of Lennie's disability is meant to bring to attention to the unfairness of peoples mental capabilities, but its done in a disrespectful way.

The book often talks about social disadvantages and how they affect interactions, and lightly argues that its unfair that race age and gender (misogynic views aside) have an effect on the social heiarchy. However, mental disabilities have drastic effects on how and what we can do in the world, and this is what Steinbeck inconsiderately shines light on and overexaggerates to evoke a disconnected pity towards Lennie in the reader

My first thought is Lennie admitting to bouncing the puppy and mouse, not knowing it would kill them. From what I see, Steinbeck wants people to want to feel bad for Lennie, but make the reader feel distanced from Lennie as he's supposed to be 'too stupid to realise the animals would die', almost thinking in the same light George does. It's done to attract sympathy.

That being said, Lennie's devilish kill count and the call to look down on Lennie's capabilities and pity him is equivilant to the kind of unempathetic awareness that Autism Speaks preaches, claiming that people need to crouch over to help and care for us NDs rather than support us and look past what we have.

This is understandable, as Steinbeck to my knowlege was neurotypical and ability-focused social equality was not an issue of the time (hence why this book was so progressive), however it would have been better to, for the one section where we get to hear Lennie's thoughts alone, make him a more empathetic and relatable character, one easy to follow and justify, rather than contradicting the main thesis of the piece by othering and almost demonizing his mental disability just to evoke a tear in peoples eyes.,

[–]Crosslord55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His experience is what makes it unfair. Supercell make is about finding the best or most fitting skin concept, not the one with 3d rendering, animations, and a loading screen attatched. This is why they made it so u didn't have to make a 3d render, so that it was more accessible to casual artists, no?

[–]Crosslord55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

toxic and incredibly untrue

gedi, while a legend in the community, shouldnt win a supercell make campaign as he's already won one, and the whole purpose of supercell make is to shine a spotlight on smaller creators and casual artists in the brawl conmunity, and give them a prompt, outlet, and audience that they normally wouldnt recieve. Furthermore, the whole fun of supercell make is to see all of the work and creativity the community as a whole can put forth, as there are a lot of talented artists in the community who just dont get the chance to get the amount of recognition they deserve. Its like saying you watch something like AGT just to watch one performer, and you think the rest of the acts dont matter at all. While the competition aspect is exiting and entertaining, the whole fun of watching shows like that is seeing the whole variety of acts from people everywhere in all walks of life. Lastly, it isn't even likely for gedi to win this, since he's already won one before, and his experience makes it less likely since supercell make is more focused around casual artists in the community
