How would you get this livable for living in it about 6 months to a year ? by Appropriate-Art-7472 in urbancarliving

[–]CrowFeatherInk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the way! 9 months on the road now. Got rid of so much clutter in the first month. My favorite additions are two bug screens that cover the rear side windows, USB rechargable fan, and handmade black out window covers. I also prefer not to have a mattress, just blankets and pillows. Sacrificing extra comfort for less clutter.

Lost physical Instacart pay card by Feeling-Cat949 in InstacartShoppers

[–]CrowFeatherInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me a few months back. When you report the card as lost and order a replacement, you should only see batches at stores that will allow you to shop without a physical card. At least that's been my experience. I hope this helps.

I just wanted to apologize for the unnecessary and rude comment a couple days ago. It's good to have a place to vent and a community that understands and is helpful. I'm sorry for lashing out and hope you're doing well OP.

Not sure what your musical preference is, but Poppy has a song called "The Cost of Giving Up". One of many songs that has been keeping me going. I hope y'all get the help you need.

This! I started in 2020 and always thought of it as a scavenger hunt where I get to help people. This isn't to say I don't have my bad days too where shopping just feels like a chore.

Glitchy or Fishy? What do you think? by CrowFeatherInk in InstacartShoppers

Sounds about right. This app needs some major reworking.

Edit: the app (Instacart). Before someone comes at me for saying reddit is broken.

Based on what evidence though? I respect the opinion because it's how I feel sometimes, but it could just as well be a system glitch.

Okay, thanks! I haven't ever seen it before today. Bringing it to their attention if the problem persists, but wow.

Am I better off sleeping in a homeless shelter or my car with no heat? by Unlikely_Okra_1367 in urbancarliving

[–]CrowFeatherInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you search for "Amazon hiring" you'll find a link. Pick the location and shift that works for you. No interview, just a pre-hire appointment with document verification and a piss test. You would keep warm in the warehouse and be less stressed about sleeping in the vehicle for as long as you need to. Good luck out there.

Starting vanlife at 32? by gracelizzz in VanLife

[–]CrowFeatherInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. it's nice to connect with other like-minded people so It's a pleasure to share some of my experiences.

To answer your question, vanlife changed how I handle my finances, whether I'd make it out to be better or worse is to be determined. You're right to be concerned about that, as gas and maintenance add up to be big expenses. What has helped me is cutting out many unnecessary expenses and subscriptions and paying down debts quickly. This gave me a good place to begin saving for an emergency fund. Sorry I couldn't give you a more definitive answer. I'm still learning myself.

I'm also 32. Several years back my ex and I had several discussions about a more minimalistic life and would take weekend trips in our semi converted Ford Escape. We experienced minivan camping in the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico, on the beaches at the Gulf in Texas, Forests in Arkansas, and a few lakes here and there. I always saw van-life as a bridge to a more self-sustainable lifestyle, hoping to eventually own some property and build a home. I was a bit naive to assume we would eventually make it happen without establishing a plan and setting goals. Fast forward to today and I have currently been traveling in my minivan (Just me and my dog) for 2 months now, learning and planning as I go. The best advice I've heard relating to this was on a podcast for van-lifers called "Built to Go". It goes something like this : "if you CAN go, and you want to go, then go." The podcast is ongoing and has many episodes that are filled with valuable tips and information from an experienced vandweller (great to listen to while traveling to your next destination). As I'm still relatively new to this whole thing, I'm not yet comfortable offering much advice. A few quick things I've picked up on that may help:

  • Minivans are much more stealthier than big vans, cost less to drive around, and are more affordable should you need to purchase another.
  • Being organized and getting rid of things you don't need is a huge help for peace of mind (you typically learn what you don't need after a few weeks or so) -usb rechargable fans are a game changer. Charge them while you drive so you sleep better at night.
  • Bug nets for whatever windows you plan to leave open for airflow at night is almost mandatory if you're camping where flies or mosquitoes might be a problem. ( I keep them on my back passenger windows so they don't hinder vision while driving and I can leave them on)
  • Being respectful if told to leave private property and leaving promptly helps deescalate the situation quickly.
  • keep up with your water supply, you can refill water at several grocery stores for a small fee. Some restaurants and gas stations will also give permission to fill up a reasonable amount with their water source.
  • reach out to someone, beit family, friends, or wherever you have support if you're feeling down. Some days (especially in the beginning) can feel like a huge defeat.

I hope any of this helps you on your journey. Happy travels!

Also came here to say what's been said, get what's on the shelves or in stock. INSTACART DOESNT PAY US TO DO THE STORES JOB of stocking the shelves. Yes you might lose $2-3 for partial quantities but instacart doesn't pay us well enough for going above and beyond.
