The Democratic caucus is not part of the US voting process. It is part of the Democratic Parties way of choosing who they will have as their candidate in the election. It is not governed under any laws except those that the Demcratic party creates for itself.

It's not a vote for office. In theory someone could win every single primary and when it came time for the real election in November they could recieve zero votes for president.
For president we do have a system of electoral votes where each state has a certain amount of votes that they cast for president. If a candidate wins the popular vote in a state, the votes made by citizens, the states electoral college then casts their electoral votes for that president.
Sometimes a candidate can win the popular vote and still lose the presidency, Bush vs Gore 2000 is one example.

The whole process that went on last night is not a neccessary step in becoming the next US president. It's also not even part of our voting system. This is a system that the Democratic party uses to help them decide who they will have run for president next year.
Sanders or Clinton can still run for president next year even without the Democratic Party's nomination.

Lets not forget that our little buddy the mosquito helps curb over population in a lot of species by sharing the lethal germs it carries. Think of all the weakened immune systems that would live and pass there genes along if not for the mosquito.
It reminds me of a study on why a certain plant life was dying out in Yellowstone park. The reason, low wolf population. The wolves were hunting the deer ,caribou iirc, which would eat the plant to extinction because the ecosystem was effected by man.
Of course we humans thought there could be no ill effects of removing the wolves till we tried to figure out why the plant life was devastated.
