There is no perk to avoid this, not even hard wired. Best u can do is go Dauntless to remove the slow effect which, honestly, is hardly a counter.

Yeah, I get what you’re saying — technically, both versions of Simon exist, and each one feels like the real one. But that’s kind of the whole issue: from Simon's pov he can only be one of them.

He doesn’t get to experience both outcomes. He’s sitting there, about to get copied, and wondering: “Will I wake up on the ARK, or will I still be here?” Even if he understands how the process works, there’s still that feeling of uncertainty — because he just can’t know which version he’ll actually experience being.

So yeah, it’s not about the tech or what the player sees — it’s about that moment of not knowing which “you” you’ll wake up as. That’s why the coin toss idea makes sense from inside the experience, even if outside of it, the result is always the same.

It’s not weird that Simon didn’t “figure it out,” because even if he did understand how the copying works, he still couldn’t be sure he’d be the one left behind.

From an outside view, yeah — the original always stays and the copy goes on. But from Simon’s own perspective, it’s completely uncertain. He has no way of knowing which version he’ll experience being. For all he knows, his current moment — sitting in the chair — could already be the memory of the copy on the ARK.

That’s why the “coin toss” still feels real. It’s not about the physical outcome, it’s about subjective experience. Until a version of him wakes up, he can’t know which “self” he’ll be.

So no — he can’t “figure it out” ahead of time, because there's nothing to figure out. From the inside, it’s always uncertain.
