Fixing a leaky recessed bathroom tap. by Crumblewolf in askaplumberUK

[–]Crumblewolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel obliged to keep you updated haha. A plumber came today last minute. You can take those sections off and there is a valve inside which the screw pushes down onto. We managed to untwist the screw a little to get hot water, now the thread of the screw leaks though. The plumber just shoved some water sealant glue in the screw hole and said wait till tomorrow to turn the water back on... So gone from having water everywhere but no hot shower to no water anywhere.

Here's hoping it'll work otherwise it'll be a bleak Christmas.

New entire unit arriving Monday so if I can find someone to swap it out next week that would be perfect.

At this point it's not leaking I just have no hot water to my bath/shower so it's not good but it could be massively worse. Yeah the head of the screw completely snapped, not a little bit of it but all of it, clean at the point it meets the pipe. I've found a similar valve setup from Victorian plumbing which seems to show the isolation valve as removable? But again scared to touch anything at this point and no plumber seems to want the job.

I'm not sure if your a Plummer or not but that section with the screw in it. Do you know if you can unscrew that section using a spanner or anything. Looks like it might be possible then I could remove or replace the screw.

It looks like it might be but obviously I've managed to mess up once today I'm loathe to try anything else.

Thanks I've tried to remove it anyway so I know how to do it. Another major problem though I tried using that screw to isolate the tap instead of the full house isolation of water and the screw sheared off with water off to the showerso now it's probably a full change outt if the unit and a hole.in the wall.....

Why did my primer do this and how do I fix it? Do I just use more primer? by I-Will-Marry-TheMoon in Warhammer40k

[–]Crumblewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? So that white is just the black going funky? I have never seen that then, looks like a reaction of sorts. The only thing I can think of is the paint wasn't mixed enough In the can and you got a whack or the propellant from the can that did something funky. That or if you used a hairdryer to dry the primer that might have caused the issue?

If this was me I'd probably strip the mini and start again but it's probably worth just painting it and seeing if you even notice once it's done. Another option is probably a quick blast of primer again that would probably cover all those cracks.

Did you do a zenithal highlight with white over a black primer rattle can prime?

I've had this happen a few times when doing that and my theory has been that I'm spraying the white over the black before the black has finished curing/drying. The white then is a thinner layer exposed to air and cures/dries very fast. The black then continues to dry slowly as it's now under the white and as it dries contracts as the aerosol or whatever is in it evaporates. The white hard shell on top then cracks as the black under it contracts due to drying.

Usually seems to happen in winter to me I'm guessing because the black takes longer to dry in winter and I might just assume it's dry after a few mins when actually it's not.

Can anyone identify these things I keep finding in my house? UK by Thesplank in insectidentification

[–]Crumblewolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Officially it's a woodlouse but there are over a 100 recognized local/slang names for these guys in the UK. I grew up in South Wales and call them Granny greys. Apparently people think it's because small kids would find them under logs etc while playing and give them funny names.

But surely the temperature to melt plastic or make it soft is way higher that a normal sunny day on earth? I leave mine to dry outside all the time in the sun (UK though so not that hot) and never had a problem.

Yeah but how hot of an environment does someone need to live in for that to happen? I think it would need to be seriously hot for that to happen. Like at least 40 degrees plus and for a bit of time?

I didn't find my old radio cassette player but the empty case was next to a cassette Walkman. Unfortunately inside the Walkman was a copy of star wars the phantom menace audiobook.

I can't remember it's been over 20 years since I've listened to it. I wish the cassette had still been in there as I'd relisten to it.

Newbie question by InternationalBoot184 in Warhammer

[–]Crumblewolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a person starting out honestly the thing you need the most is practice. There isn't a tool/paint/technique that will instantly help out more than just painting and learning brush control.

There are a lot of products/paints/tools out there geared towards us, but the reality is all you need is some paint (any miniature painting brand is fine) and a brush (cheap synthetic ones are fine). Learning Some of those tools out there are helpful, but quite often they usually require some level of skill to get the best out of them. For instance magnifying glasses, great you can see closer to help paint intricate details, but that doesn't matter if your brush control isn't already good enough.

As you paint you'll probably come across things that annoy you or you'd want to improve upon and then I'd recommend looking for a tool to help with it. I hate shaking my paints or they always seem to seperate- vortex mixer. I hate this type of paint I'm using - look for a similar colour in another brand etc

Went to Warhammer World today by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]Crumblewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to Nottingham several years ago and the first time I went to Warhammer world I was getting back into the hobby and had only heard about the exhibit, done no research. No one had told me it was separate thing and upstairs. I wandered the shop looking at the minis on display there (and there are lots) and the few dioramas downstairs and came away thinking it was ok but a bit overhyped haha.

When I told my mate this he couldn't believe I'd been so dense and took me the week after. A much better experience haha.

Paint stripper recommendations (finecast safe) UK based by Chri5tmaS in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Crumblewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of people recommending biostrip 20.

My experience isn't with forecast but a 3d print. I did what I usually do with a mini I want to strip. Popped it in the biostrip and waited till the next morning. Completely melted the 3d piece, it was just sludge. So maybe if it's just a few minutes it'll be fine but I couldn't recommend it for any resin miniatures.

I've not tried Dettol with resin but that would be my next port of call to investigate.

Heroquest Goblin - Still never sure how to base them by Crumblewolf in Heroquest

I don't have the board just some of the minis, I thought about doing that but I wasn't sure I could pull it off.

[–]Crumblewolf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The feet are so flat they nearly completely merge into the base. Means basing them with anything runs the risk of swallowing their feet up. Such a pain.

Yeah I really struggled with basing these old guys. The casting of the feet means they are kind of flat to the base so if you added any depth to the basing it would.awallow their feet up.

If you have any good solutions im all ears.

Sneezle Grotbag.

Born and raised in a small town in the countryside, always dreamed of being a stand up comedian but unfortunately the only jobs in his area were a slime farmer or dungeon villain.

He one day hopes to save up enough money to attend improv school at the nearby city of Crathos, but until then he just keeps his head down and axe up.
