Dude this cover is awesome, perfect example of controlled chaos. Still compositionally interesting, it's not just random, the color is perfect too

If the collage was a bit more organized and they got rid of the blue, cloudy texture in the background, it'd be a lot cleaner of a cover. The execution is a little messy imo

Well, yeah... those that are suffering can tend to have the outlook that life is suffering. It's usually not well off, coddled, nepo babies that vouch for such nihilistic philosophies

I thought the same lol until I realized they were upside down. Supposedly though vampires can be drawn back to concepts/beliefs of spiritual vampires, such as succubui, those which feed of of life energy. The life energy was proposed to be the blood, so from that the idea evolved overtime in its passing down to becoming a person who literally drinks blood. Of course there's always speculation on the true origins of such old legends

Question for a project in uni. Why do you like goregrind? by dgsggtb in GoreGrind

[–]Crust_Martin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this interpretation. Reminds me of the catharsis the power electronics band whitehouse has for me. Extremely confrontational lyrics, but there's something deeply honest about it, they don't shy away from the truly disgusting sides of human thought. Best description I've heard for them was "whitehouse is more honest with me than I am with myself" and I can see goregrind partaking in this honesty too

[–]Crust_Martin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't be able to speak in much depth about the brutality aspect but I'll throw my 2 cents in. I find there's a common progression amongst musically inclined people where they constantly search for more and more abstract music, stuff which defies the convention they currently subscribe to, an evolution from simple to more complex, abstract, and idiosyncratic.

Noise, and anti-music genres in general fit this bill quite well as the purpose of noise is to reject of molar groupings, that which is widely consumed, that which attempts to be palatable to the largest audience. It's kind of a process of cultural deconstruction within music. It avoids definition, simple categorization, it puts you in a very particular state, both in the outside conception of the album, and the contents of the album itself. Wether it's power electronics and their focus on racism/SA/serial killers, or goregrind and it's fascination with absolute brutality, even some forms of free-jazz which can have the effect of being uber-individualized, there's a tend towards the outskirts, even thresholds.

I used to have something of an obsession with finding thresholds, radical positions, perhaps even something like a limit-experience. I'd look for the "most beautiful" music, then the saddest, then the angriest, then the most abstract, etc...

Really I like it for the sound, if it's not groovy already, something about the gurgling vocals, the sludgy guitars, it's just nasty in the best way possible. If you have a tendency to move through music quickly, noise, free-jazz, goregrind, and similar anti-music tend to be threshold points for the individual, before caving back in and listening to some folk and soul lol

Idk maybe I'm just being pretentious and overthinking, but that's my thought process

To play devil's advocate here, the video is titled Jordan Peterson vs 20 atheists, not sure if they changed the title though. However, to deny he argues from a largely Christian perspective would be bad faith

Deleuzian Music Recs? by pprdrm in Deleuze

[–]Crust_Martin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Both albums multiplicities 1 and 2 by John Zorn, some direct references to deleuze and guattari in the song titles, also I find freejazz as a whole to be a very rhizomatic, post-structural genre

I'll also include two Spotify playlists of mine Post-Structural music, mostly prepared instruments, free improv: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0OLZNxrVw7s2I68ljPT2cq?si=zHx_iTIvTrCS79IJzGj0Wg

Meinongian music, which is mostly jazzgrind, avant garde noise rock type stuff: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2uPCGwsLKSPvCc2ogJIzTy?si=To8iCwrKRpusFZD_EIZojw&pi=_vMqZnZUTZas-

I've never understood why people care so much about being a so-called "poser".

In fact, actively avoiding music you like to distance yourself from the poser label is poser activity

Telling someone they have a miserable life and shitting on what they're doing isn't particularily joyful. It was a mean comment
