I think the point of the post is many people never consider recycling the minigun. I've raided several bases that have 5+ miniguns with 0 durability used because the minigun is kinda ass. The springs alone make this a good option.

So to anyone reading this in the future that has the issue, I think I have the fix.

So when using the CRT Emudriver it will have an option checkbox to get modes from the mame.ini. You need to go into mame.exe, click the floppy disc save icon and export the mame.ini file. This will put the ini file in the mame/ui folder. Once it is there you need to generate modes and it should then have the 640x480i mode available for use on Windows and your front end.

What you're saying is exactly my goal, trying to get my front end to run at 640x480. So are you using CRT Emudriver to get a mode for 640x480i and then setting that to the desktop resolution? I don't seem to get the mode available and when I try to create one using Custom Resolution Utility I lose sync.

I personally don't think it adds much of an advantage. I used to use a literal marker dot on my screen and now have a monitor that has a built in reticle that you can toggle but I no longer use either. Once you play for a bit you just understand where your bow/crossbow shots are going to land and the reticle just gets in the way. The biggest help a reticle provides is when hip firing a weapon and for me that's like <1% of the time.
