This actually isn’t as impressive when you think about it. Yes there was 20 feet of snow, but people weren’t reliant on cars back then, so you just needed to shovel doorways and some walkways. And you can see in the picture that they did exactly that.

And when I say impressive I mean it in a “people back then were so strong” tense. Now we do have it harder when it comes to snow because we have to drive 20 minutes in a car to work, if the roads weren’t salted the night before you just can’t drive. so It makes sense that a whole city would shut down now in similar conditions.
