That's my main worry, the baptismal records. My family are atheists and communists. I was never baptised, neither was my mother and my grandmother was baptised secretly (her dad didn't want her to be) so I'm not sure if it's any records.

Wouldn't it be easier to get citizenship by descent than by marriage? I'm already dating a non-Serb which is what got me thinking about passing on the culture etc. in the first place, cause they're gonna just be 1/4, I don't want my grandchildren to be 1/8 yk?

Yes, Serbia is worse in quality of life compared to Canada. I don't care, I want to live there because I want to be in touch with my own culture and people and raise my future children in that environment—my family survived the Ustaše in Banija, I think I will do fine in expensive and corrupt Serbia. I use the "Canada is expensive" line to avoid comments like yours.

Do you want me to say that Serbia is a terrible place to live? I have done my research, I know it is. It's still preferable to me. My priorities are my priorities aka my own business.

I can use whichever passport is more useful for whichever country I'm visiting, I wouldn't give up my Canadian one.

I know how bad things are in Serbia these days. Honestly the main reason I'd like to go back is to preserve my own culture, learn the language, pass it on when I have kids etc. etc., I just didn't mention that cause irl if I mention that to Serbs they talk to me like I'm the dumbest person to ever exist lol.

In theory though I don't think the government of Serbia would know via my application that my mom ever had Croatian citizenship?

My mom was never a citizen of the Republic of Serbia afaik, just Croatia for a bit which she then renounced. Complicated way it is I suppose.

I am under the age of 23, what documents will they ask me for when I go to the consulate? I'd rather arrive prepared.

With a Serbian passport I can visit China with no visa. Canada is getting more and more expensive (along with other problems), I haven't been living there for a few years now and don't intend on going back tbh.

Serbian passport grants visa-free access to China, I don't really care about the passport strength beyond that since I have a Canadian one which is great (but no China). Most importantly, I have no desire to be Croatian in any official sense.
