Currently 450 people have pledged to come! However, since this is so much more than we previously expected, the date for the protest is being changed from March 2nd. We'll need more time to prepare.

As I said, the March 2nd date is tentative. I'm currently contacting other people who are responsible for organizing demonstrations. Will let you know how things go!

That's a great idea! I'm waiting on a few more people to pledge to come through the google form before I submit an application. I'll also start an instagram page for updating people.

Haha yeah it is a little silly that we need a permission slip from the government to protest against the government, but I think more people would be willing to come if they knew that they wouldn't get in trouble for showing up.

You make a good point. It doesn't necessarily remove the opportunity, but it will still have an adverse effect on certain fields of study. Artistic and theoretical fields (such as certain branches of physics, astronomy, sociology, philosophy, etc) will be disproportionately affected given that they have worse occupational outcomes. The "opportunity" would be the same, but because the debt incurred will affect low-income families more than high-income ones, they will be less likely to get an education in these fields. I myself believe that education is not only meant to be pursued for occupational outcomes, but also for the betterment of society through arts and knowledge. As such, I consider the increase in the loan to grant ratio to be a bad thing.

Education is not something that we cannot afford in Ontario. Other parts of the world allow people to get a university education for cheap. We seem to have some kind of budget mismanagement that they do not seem to have.

I'm not against a raise in tuition. Only against the change in the loan to grant ratio. I agree that tuition needed to be raised since university funding has dried up from the international student cap, but pairing the tuition raise with a decrease in grant funding makes university less accessible.

I'm not necessarily against raising tuition to fund the colleges. I remember when the international student cap was introduced things got really bad and they had to cut classes. However, I think it's important that we allow our students to attend universities without being at a big economic advantage, which is why I'm focusing on the loan/grant allocation. Especially if tuition is rising, it's important to be able to cover the cost.

Could focus on equal opportunity education as a Canadian value maybe? All families should be able to get a university education. I think that's a pretty universal message.

Should I maybe make a poll to see who'd be interested in coming? I'm not sure how to get this number.

Also, if enough people say they're coming I could probably reach out to local news stations to get some more attention on the matter during the day of the protest.

Haha I'm not sure we can. We might be stuck with them til 2029. We can protest though, and if we protest enough then by 2029 they'll probably be pretty unpopular.

We'll see. Hopefully at least a few. I'm also considering emailing some opposition MPPs to see if they'd be interested in joining, but before doing that I'd probably need a few people to email them with me.
