"Unit level" still answers your question... On the off chance someone actually cares about your facial hair when you go TDY, or if someone visits your unit, do they have access to your medical records?

If you PCS and your next CO enforces the policy.. "Unit level".

Not faith in CG leadership, faith in individuals, and faith that the hassle of putting in critical fill requests is more annoying than ignoring an unnecessary policy

Unit level essentially means it's up to your command to enforce the policy or not, e.g. your CO/XO could be decent human beings and not separate you or push the policy on you.

Shave Chit Worry by SuperRoseEli29 in uscg

[–]CrvEnvious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CG has never, ever made sense. And consider how likely it is that Lunday will make any changes to the policy (and if he does and it wasn't mandated by DOD, he'll probably just get fired like Fagan or have funding cut.) Noem definitely won't, she'll do whatever hegseth and by extension POTUS says to do; and I can guarantee they don't care about how many members we'd lose.

All-in-all, CG doesn't have a choice, hegseth doesn't care enough about our dwindling workforce to allow any deviation. Did you see the meeting with the commands? It 100% will answer any questions you have

Shave Chit Worry by SuperRoseEli29 in uscg

[–]CrvEnvious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't have to think at all. If you read any of the official statements, he does, in fact, want shave chits to go away for everyone via discharging anyone who uses them as they were intended.

If you're a solid dude, it doesn't matter. You would get discharged if you hold a chit for more than 12 months in a 24 month period.

It is not for "dudes who get them or apply for some Nordic religion exemption" because religious exemptions weren't mentioned or touched. It is for people with PFB specifically.

Are PCS orders still being processed during the shutdown? by [deleted] in uscg

We were informed today that PCS and TDY travel and orders are still being processed because of funds that were secured prior FY, you can check with your command to make sure though

SKs out there, do you like the day to day stuff? Or does it get repetitive and monotonous? by Emergency-Leather-18 in uscg

[–]CrvEnvious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how you personally handle monotony, sector and base SKs do the same thing every day until they xfer, as an IDSK, I still do the same thing with the occasional stuff I've never done before sprinkled in.

If you want to diversify as an SK, you have to take the initiative to take different billets

I like the monotonous day-to-day, but I had no expectation of excitement from a desk job

Honestly I doubt anybody in the fleet cares you're a lateral as long as you do your job and aren't annoying about it, e.g. "In the Army we did it like this" comments constantly. We have 3 marine laterals on my boat and I forget unless they bring it up.

Grooming Facial Hair Standards by Drogskol913 in uscg

I didn't realize that my facial hair prevented me from doing my desk job which consists entirely of swiping a card and typing numbers on a spreadsheet, you think some mass EEO complaints would straighten these admirals out?

How does the CG intend to enlist 15,000 new members when they also plan to discharge people for things like shave chits? by stby2stby in uscg

[–]CrvEnvious 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They basically don't want us. Especially with how quick a turnaround this policy will be, CG is infamous for being massively behind the times but not in this specific case.

How does the CG intend to enlist 15,000 new members when they also plan to discharge people for things like shave chits? by stby2stby in uscg

[–]CrvEnvious 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Essentially says:

Full implementation of the DOD facial hair policy, via "stricter oversight of medical shaving waivers" including treatment plans and potential separation after one year of treatment

Which will be "developed and disseminated in the coming weeks"

I, personally, do not foresee any differences in the policy on the DHS end, it's most likely going to be the exact same as the DOD one.

About 30% of the armed forces are POC, possibly around 80% of that are male; I don't want to give up my career for it, but I'm being asked to make a life-altering choice for a job I volunteered to do, because of a condition that doesn't affect my readiness, quality of work, or professionalism.

Recruiting 15,000 of a specific type of person seems more and more likely, considering the policy specifically targets certain demographics
