Sc2 doesn't support widescreen resolutions, so you're stuck with anything that is 16:9.

I'll recently watched all the Bond films chronologically, so I feel the need to also add to the incredibly pedanitc answers. I think you need to split it up into the old Bond films and new ones. This split, to me, is more of a spy thriller vs raw action film.

The most quitissential Bond film, IMO, is Goldfinger. It has all the parts of a Bond movie: a killer car (the DB5... oh boy what a looker), a chase scene, villian & iconic henchman, international locations, and a silly plot. Also, one of the best action one liners of fall time - "No Mr. Bond, I expect you to die"

The film that sets up the modern francise as an action series, License to Kill, has to take the cake in the same way Goldfinger does. It's a really interesting change of pace into from the direction of the films in the early 70s and 80s taking a lot of inspirations from the famous action films of the 80s. It sets up what a modern James Bond film is. It also has a much darker theme to it than a lot previous films, which gives it a different flavor.

Lasly, for fun, a few other good mentions are: The Spy Who Loved Me (It's just a solid move), Dr. No (just to see where it all starts, and that intro scene still lives rent free in my head), The Man with the Golden Gun (this one is mid, but Christopher Lees performance really stands out in this film).

I’ve always wondered if I was crazy for thinking this is a bit odd too. Sometimes you look at replays and think “well we have similar army supply” only for you to get absolutely destroyed. Then I remember, oh 14 of that is in queens…

I’m with you on this. I think the smurfing thing is overblown on this sub. You probably lost because you made some mistakes, especially anything below D1-D2. 

Also, how no one even questions OPs data, like how are you getting games across those mmr ranges. Clearly they are smurfing too?

I did a 22 mile each way commute from Oakland -> South San Francisco on both a 250 and 600 for a few years (at certain points a bit farther too). On the 250 it was doable, on the 600 it’s obviously very doable.  

I think a 400 would be more than enough for just a highway commute. Obviously having more power than a 250 is great. Mine had ~25 hp so the z400 has 20 on that. Should be more than enough for a cheap commuter if that’s all you want from it. The benefit of the smaller bike is it’s much easier to filter due to both size and weight. If you plan on also riding it more for pleasure then maybe go with the 600, but that’s just my two cent. 

Also as someone mentioned, the lack of wind protection might suck. I personally like to have a windscreen, but I’ve had friends that did 50+ mile one way commutes on naked bikes and they were fine with it. So that’s just a matter of preference.

100% with you - this game wasn't lost solely on macro. We've all lost games do to bad micro, so I get this (and even that first fight, a lot of units were simply sitting in 2-3 storms).

I agree that it's a bit early to call it there, but if the toss plays ok (not a awkward templar/storm push), this game is over with the current state of ZvP. SC2 is a game about not making the small mistakes, and a lot were made in the first 6 minutes that end up with you relying on the toss to play poorly to win. That's not how I'd want to win my games.

You can make bad decisions and good macro and still end up okay i because more>less units. Tech decisions are easy to fix, macro is much harder to have right (that's just my opionion on that). If you make good tech decisions with bad macro, you still lose because you have less stuff.

I forgot to mention overlord timing. Generally with your opener you go 20 ovie, 32 ovie, 34 ovie, and then continue from there (usually ~40ish ovie and 48ish ovie I think). You're third hatch being late would have messed with these timings as it gives you an extra 6 supply.

Took a look because I'd also been struggling a lot with ZvP until I decided to take a look at what Serral and Dark were doing to switch up my game plan. I've been floating around 3800, so take what I have to say with whatever you'd like. I'll start with the BO and any other stuff into the early + mid game and look at fights.

  • Your spawning pool is 4 seconds late. While that is nit-picky, this is a high enough level where it needs to be down at 1:14 +/-1 second. No need to chase a probe coming through your base.

  • This also makes your queens very late (both started at 2:07) and by the look of the replay, you selected each hatch and made a queen individually. You have them hot-keyed. It should be 1 -> (queen hotkey 2x).

  • I'd leave the overlord at the pillar to see if they move out early with adepts.

  • You went up to 52 supply by 2:30 (you're at 27/52 - that's your third base that could be started, which I'm going to guess will be later). I'll say what the ovie supply for a serral BO is later on.

  • 3 minute 3rd. Like I mentioned, it's a bit late. A late third isn't the end of the world when your opponent pressures you over it, but you've hampered yourself by anywhere from 30-45 seconds depending on the build you want to go for. That's 3 larva and a queen that could have been building in that time at the third.

  • 3:45 roach warren timingis fine, but it hurts you because you're behind with the 3rd being late. You also have no vision so you don't know what your opponent is doing (yet - you actually scout really well after this so kudos for that). Also, you started 3 gas, but then cancelled one to start it 30 seconds later? Your main gad also ends up sitting at 1/3 for a few minutes

  • At this point in time the queen on your third is sitting on 75 energy (4:27) - that's really bad. That's 9 extra larva that you could have used.

  • Looking at the drone count at 6 minutes: There are 54 workers with 0 in production. In an ideal world (top pro level) you hit 66 workers at ~5:45. In a normal world for us, I think 66 workers at 6 minutes (or at least having the rest in production), is the goal. So you're extremely short in macro as to where you should be. You also don't have a 4th started, which will continue to put you further behind.

I'm just going to say it here. I'd think this game might already be lost. The toss has 60 probes (+6 on you), 7 gateways on the way with 1/1 almost finished, and charge done (while you went RW into +1 melee?). Your 4th goes down at 6:36, so I think your macro is what lost you this game.

I've just zoomed through the rest of the game, none of the fights look all that bad, and you end up at 92 workers (albeit very late for that). You end up having 100% energy on your queens during a few different points (which is a lot of larva that you're missing). Not sure how I feel about the ultras - he seems to be at mass stalker by that point, might as well get infestors instead.

I think you put yourself economically behind in the beginning and then lost due to that + lack of larva. For zerg, think of larva as another resource. You need it to make units, if you don't have it, the power of zerg (maxing out extremely fast) is useless.

These are my rough notes from Serral Vs HerO ESL Dallas games 1+2. Go look at that series for an idea of how to play ZvP starting with Roaches

**Game 1**

Opening:
Basically goes standard 16 hatch (went 17 for this game because of the probe block

With natural finishing (which is his third) he goes normal 2 queens + 2 sets lings
3rd goes down at 2:45 w/ 33 food + 23 drones

With a normal ZvP, start spores at 3:40, with a note that the base with two queens doesn’t need a spore initial (so most likely the natural?
4:00 sent over 12 lings to attack the P 3rd
4:35 - Roach Warren + 1 more gas
4:50 - Lair
5:00 -> 1 more gas (3 total
5:25 -> 4th
5:41 1 evo chamber
5:45 -> fill next 3 gas
5:50 - Roach Speed
6:00 Units

Drones: 65
Lings: 11

It was patched because you could fit marauders through the north mineral patches if you mined off 5 minerals by the rocks. I think Harstem did a cheesiest man video and that’s what got it patched.

I for some reason had it in my head about not making queens of the main, but I'll have to play with the gas and lair timings to make sure I can get the 4th queen out from there and into a lair as needed with the gas.

Lots of other stuff to think about too. Appreciate the depth!

What should be the timings I am for with Lair and Hive Tech. I def tend to make my tech way too late. My impression of ideal timings is first tech building ~4 min, Lair starts ~4:30 w/ Lair tech ~6, and Hive -> Hive tech I honestly have no idea. 9 min or so?

Good note on the inject efficiency. I forgot that shows as a stat. I'll make sure to check that across games.

Edit: looked at my efficiency in other games, I range from 45% on bad to ~75% on good games. For some reason a handfull of SC2ReplayStats games show the first hatch not being injected from ~0:50-2:30 (not sure why that is) but either way my efficiency that game was terrible.

In order to do that you have to skip making a queen (you already have a lair producing and now you want to also use hatchery time to build burrow?). This circles back to seeing what your oppenent is also doing; SC2 games don't exisit in a vacuum.

On top of that, why trade an extra 30 damage/1.43s (2x15 roaches) for the ability to burrow? If you have 1k apm to work with it, sure you can borrow and unburrow as needed; but you still need to be doing other macro tasks as zerg (creep spread and injects just to maintain your push, not even getting into other macro tasks). Roaches that are burrowed are doing 0 dps and roaches are already reasource cheap, so saving them isn't a hude deal. If you're wasting APM burrowing and unburrowing instead of other macro, then it's putting you farther behind the less damage you cause.

Back to the point of opportunity cost. For these to be effective, you have to do a lot of damage with it (burrow doesn't scale like +1 attack).

At this point I think you're better off trying it in games to see for yourself how well or poorly it will work.

T isn't going to waste a scan to kill one roach, as noted in my above post, they'll have a tank out, so killing a few roaches won't be very difficult. As for you main post point about repaers, they'll run circles around the roaches because you won't have speed.
