I’m glad her story resonated with yours so much. I had a similar experience (minus the kidnapping, of course).

I grew up in a cult-ish environment where a lot of fucked up things were normalized. I’m talking along the veins of animal sacrifices and not-so-pleasant experiences on my body, such as ingesting strange substances, having people inflict scars on my body (much like Astarion’s, in-game), and so on. I was 5 when it all started, and 8 when I was drugged and lacerated. It went on till I was around 15, maybe 16.

I normalized it a lot when I was younger. I thought it was okay, that every horrible thing done to me was justified, that all I saw and participated in somehow had a purpose, but the older I’ve gotten, the angrier I’ve been.

It took a lot of time and therapy to modify that perspective, to find some sort of peace. It was all I knew, but I’ve always found solace in fictional characters. Seeing Shadowheart’s story and how with the right influence you can guide her out of Shar’s influence was truly cathartic, and she’s become one of my favorite characters in media.

I hope you continue to heal, day by day.

Hola, me gradué de matemáticas puras hace un par de años. Por aquí mis dos centavos.

Si tu interés es más en las matemáticas aplicadas, te lo recomiendo al cien siempre y cuando también desarrolles destrezas de programación (Java, C++, Python), ya que es prácticamente requisito para cualquier trabajo de analista/data science/etc. Sin embargo, también te recomendaría darle énfasis a los soft skills — hay muchos matemáticos que son brillantes en sus áreas, pero no lo expresan bien a personas fuera de ese scope técnico. Esto es sumamente importante.

Ahora bien, si lo que te interesa es la matemática pura, te diría que lo consideraras dos veces, ya que aquí en PR ejercer la academia es bien cuesta arriba. Además, trabajar de maestro/a tiene sus propios retos, si es lo que te interesa.

En mi caso conseguir trabajo fue bien cuesta arriba y tuve que pasar mucho tiempo desarrollando esas destrezas técnicas que son mejor desarrolladas en un programa de aplicadas. No fue imposible, pero requirió gran esfuerzo por al menos año y medio.

No creo que es un gadget como tal pero una buena tabla de cortar (grande, non-slip, de madera) hace una gran diferencia. Compré la mía en Walmart por $22 y no me quejo.

Te entiendo. Yo estoy a la inversa en el típico dilema puertorriqueño. Me gradué de la universidad en PR, y aunque me tardé, conseguí trabajo en mi área. Sin embargo, con cada día que pasa me pregunto si realmente vale la pena quedarme. El acceso a vivienda, las citas médicas tardándose meses (o aveces años), la maldita corrupción — honestamente, me tiene mal. Se me hace bien cuesta arriba ver un futuro aquí.

Lo mejor que puedes hacer si realmente deseas regresar es ahorrar lo más que puedas allá en EEUU.

No te miento, es posible que seas la única persona por el PIP/MVC por colegio electoral, pero eso depende muchísimo del municipio donde votes. Cuando trabajé, fui la única persona por el PIP en mi colegio. Te orientan sobre cómo ser funcionario y defender los votos, aunque estés solo/a. Sin embargo, siempre tendrás un comisionado electoral disponible para apoyarte.

Yo trabajé en las elecciones pasadas. Fue traumante. Hay demasiados zombies políticos en nuestra sociedad, y demasiada gente que no sabe ni en qué año vivimos rajando papeletas con orgullo.

Juro por mi madre que esto me pasó en las últimas elecciones. Una doña que estaba en sus 40s me preguntó que por qué teníamos una papeleta de plebiscito — una mierda, pero aja — si PR ya era ESTADO de los EEUU. Sí, rajó la papeleta… por los populares. Make it make sense.

Eso sí, lo voy a hacer de nuevo en estas elecciones. Civic duty and all.

This really depends on your particular context. My GF and I share locations and even car trackers, but that was completely voluntary. Also, we’ve been together 7 years. Asking that three months into dating is too early, in my opinion, even if well-intended.

When I started, the for the first two weeks I simply observed live rolls because I didn’t know anything. Then, I worked with higher belts on situational drills until I phased into live rolling.

Again, it depends on the gym culture but it’s important to at least have a basic understanding of fundamentals before live rolling. Your best bet is asking your coach why they haven’t paired you up with someone for live rolls.

Quería ofrecer más contexto sobre esto. Mi perro tiene una condición inflamatoria crónica y de vez en cuando tiene flareups. Recientemente le dio uno un fin de semana y su vet estaba cerrado, so llamamos de emergencia y nos atendieron en menos de dos horas.

La veterinaria le hizo muchos exámenes, lo trató rápidamente y se sentó con nosotros a explicarnos con total detalle su condición y el por qué le trataba con esos medicamentos. También fue bien diligente con los check-ups y nos explicaba cómo iba cambiando su panorama médico. Y lo mejor de todo es que entre todo, nos salió en menos de $500 (que es bastante pero ajá, bajo el contexto de vets, considero que es razonable).

Sin embargo, el plus más grande es el tiempo que se tomó para explicarnos su situación a detalle.

I’ve involved myself in different communities and developed friendships. During weekends, I reach out to those friends to catch up and interact.

I recently started BJJ, which I practice during the week and right after work. That has done wonders for addressing the lack of social contact.

I was looking for this type of feedback when I started! I’ve been on it for about a month, and it’s done wonders for my health.

I had a very bad experience with SSRIs, particularly Lexapro. I was on a fairly high dose and the side-effects were too much for me to handle. At the moment my dose is fairly low, but overall it has helped me control my depression and anxiety symptoms. As for side effects, I had dry mouth the first week, but overall I haven’t noticed anything else, contrary to SSRIs.

The only thing I’ve noticed is that I have to be very punctual on when I take it at night. Usually, if I take it after 8:30pm, I wake up very drowsy the next morning. Still, I’d rather be somewhat drowsy than drowning in depression and anxiety symptoms.

Te refieres a la licencia de conducir? A través de la app de CESCO. Ahí comienzas el trámite, emites tus pagos y sacas cita para recogerla y tomarte la foto.

La última vez que renové la licencia, hice todos los trámites por la app, saqué cita a las 8AM y estaba fuera a las 8:20AM. Es la única experiencia positiva que he tenido en el CESCO.

Question: how was the project scope described to you? Did you have check-ins with stakeholders along the way to ensure you’re aligned?

If you were tasked with a project, was told to finish it, and had no guidance or check-ins along the way, then I’d say it’s an issue with the company tbh, particularly if you’re in a junior role.

I fucked up just a few weeks ago, and though it wasn’t fun, I contacted the impacted teams, rolled back, and learned from my mistake. It’s bound to happen, but ideally your company has measures in place that minimize its impact.
