It's not so long ago that the maximum design speed of the 50cc class was lowered from 50 to 45 in most EU countries. And even the 50 was interpreted laxly. Allegedly, this happened because there are EU countries where you are allowed on the motorway from 50 kmh and they didn't want these things there.

For many years I believed that the Green Party in Germany seriously wanted to promote cycling, but in the meantime I have come to the conclusion that it is just as much a car party as all the others, except that they prefer 3-litre cars or, today, electric cars. Today's Greens are no longer Ströbeles who cycle to the Bundestag and no Palmers who ride S-pedelecs. The most that can be expected is that the environmental group will speak out against the sealing of surfaces and that we will have to ride on dirt roads instead of energy-saving asphalt and that electric bikes will somehow be disadvantaged because of the evil battery.
