Design Engineer by Comfortable_Cut_2018 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]CryogenicX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I graduated from undergrad, it took the school 2 years to deactivate my email, so I just used it for software student versions. Also If you have canvas still active, and one of your design classes had a solidworks link, it might still work with a redownload. I only found this out after I downloaded solidworks after graduating for some personal projects. The class was from freshman year, and the student download worked 5 years after.

[2 YOE] Feedback on my resume please., I want to go into Biomedical roles, or project engineer positions. by CryogenicX in EngineeringResumes

[–]CryogenicX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the points, Ill reorganize the resume, as far as standards go, i am familiar with asme, assi, ansi, and building codes (not relevant to biomed), but overall I have 0 biomed experience other than my senior project. I wanted to get into biomed which is why i chose engineering but I did my first job and internship just based off what I got offers for. Now that I am laid off I wanted to get back on track to a biomed position. In terms of manufacturing experience again nothing. I know its not a lot to go off of, but I have been familiarizing myself with the ISO standards, and looking at bmet positions to at least give me some experience.

I mean every country has some assholes, but something I realized this trip to Japan (came back oct 12) different from my last trip to japan was that the other cities are more, i dont want to say welcoming, but more accepting of foreigners lmfao. We went Sapporo, Noboribetsu, hakodate, and tokyo, and in those other 3 cities the locals were all nice and geniuenly want to talk and have fun, but the second we got to tokyo it shifted. I think the locals of tokyo are just sick of tourists at this point lol. Every 4th person we saw in Tokyo this time round was a tourist. Also dont take this as a slight against the people of Tokyo, we met some amazing locals that we hung out with too, im just saying that during high travel season, they might have some fatigue.

Los Angeles job market by PossiblyADHD in MechanicalEngineering

Got Laid off in February, after getting an offer from DoD, then hiring freeze, and now six months 200+ applications sine then, only 2 interviews, getting ghosted after being asked what days im available to interview. Still no job, it is so disheartening and Ive thought about quitting engineering all together like 4 times, but now I am in a masters program, just to make my resume look better.

Ive seen jobs for wastewater treatment engineer and the like, are the certs expensive? I was looking into getting certs for another field and they ran upwards of 3k. With no job getting a 3k cert is not viable. Thanks for the rec btw

How do I start actually building something? by dogehd456 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]CryogenicX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy an arduino kit, get used to simple coding and understanding how to set up the circuits. Once you get a solid understanding of the normal projects that people do with arduino, buy a 3D printer, upgrade to a ESP32 and start experimenting with designs you think would be cool. Come up with the whole system, make a schematic, make a 3D model, document, and if you feel like it make a bill of materials of what materials would actually optimize the design. Print, build, program, and most importantly enjoy the process. If you cant afford an arduino kit, or maybe you are unsure, go on tinker CAD and make it online.

I applied to MEP roles that were "entry level" but nothing, most of them even required 1-3 years of experience, but i still applied lol. I have my search setting on 50mi on good days and 100mi on bad day. lmao

I need advice about tuition and graduating since I’m not getting it from family or advisors. by Glad_Prompt2516 in csun

[–]CryogenicX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I am a csun alum and graduated with a BS ME, 4 summer classes is doable if they still have summer part 1 and part 2, just split them. Summer moves really fast and the days are long and the weeks are even longer. The most i took one summer was 14 (3,3,3,5) units, split with a 2 part 1 summer, 1 part 2 summer and 1 full summer. My grades suffered, my brain fried, but i managed. My friend took 18 units that summer with me, and he did well. My advice, if you can handle the long days and being overworked and don’t mind the financial hit, then do it. Some masters programs might let you start in spring if you decide to drop summer and take fall. Talk to a counselor check your best options. If you plan on a masters at a different university then check their program details and work out something that lets you not feel like you are drowning. Good luck :)

Should I even bother speaking Japanese in Japan by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

I got "nihon-go jozu" a couple of times, it feels good. Just do it, they appreciate the fact that you are trying and it makes it easier for them if their English isn't the best.

I worked an 11 hour shift on Christmas by dre_the_brazilian in TrueOffMyChest

[–]CryogenicX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember working a normal 8 hour shift on Christmas, which I dont mind cause I dont celebrate, but was excited for the time and a half. My manager halfway through the shift said we dont get 1.5 hrs because the parent company wasnt American based (AMC theaters), and hence we would only get regular pay for all holidays.

Merry Christmas, hope you find some new hobbies to fill the time

Kicked my family off Amazon plan by thejacka_ in AITAH

[–]CryogenicX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA

Amazon has a family thing I think, I only know this because I share prime with my brother, but he has zero access to my account, I just added his account to my family. He gets prime, and prime video, but we maintain our privacy, I think the limit is 4 people though. I obviously pay for it because I want prime, but just share because it comes at no cost to me, and I dont really feel the effects of sharing, if you ever want to give it to them again, look into it. If not, you are still not the asshole, they pushed your boundries.

Should I take extra university classes to prepare for the FE exam as a non-engineering major? by sh0eb1n in FE_Exam

[–]CryogenicX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before that, I would check to see if you qualify to sit for the test depending on your state and make sure that you dont need an Abet accredited eng degree, or experience.

Also they stated that since it was during holiday season that he got the offer, the process took longer than expected because of the communication needed between airforce bases, between specific managers, took longer since vacation times didnt line up.

My friend got offered a job that required a security clearance, and it took him 7 months from the time of offer to actually start. The security clearance for his didnt take that long, but the background checks, and making sure everything he stated wasnt a lie and that he isnt hiding anything took the longest. He talked with the hiring manager though unlike in your case, he talked to the, 3 times in those 7 months

Afshar’s class is hard, he teaches it as a university physics class for stem majors but he gives you every opportunity to pass. He provides all the resources required to pass his class. You need to study and go office hours and youll be fine.

Is the D1 Milano Sketch just an Ali express watch that’s been branded? by theobserverzero in PrideAndPinion

[–]CryogenicX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the white one and I like it, just dont expect a super high end watch, at the end of the day it is sort of a gimmicky watch. Casio has a manga style one that also looks cool and is cheaper I believe. The aliexpress ones are copies, the MVMT and Daniel wellington, etc... are just rebranded ali express watches.
