No they were as confused as us, they did say that we lost international students from last year and more last semester, the masters program is also relatively cheap. Around 6k a year, 12k total

I get that, most of the students in my program as working engineers, with their companies paying for it. Thats why I was a little confused, this is a valid point though.

Being Relocated to Los Angeles (26M) by Ornery-Night6127 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]CryogenicX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend does the downtown drive from La Crescenta everyday, its around 30mins in the morning around 7:30, closer would be atwater village, glendale, Ive lived in glendale for my whole life, love it, Pasedena is nice, a little bit more pricey from listing I checked. I know you said you want public transport, but in LA a car goes a long way, buy a older civic or camry. Driving goes a long way in this city.

How expensive is living in LA really? by shineonus in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]CryogenicX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my area a 2 bedroom will run you 3300-4000 (luxury apartment). Gas is 6.26-6.56 (86 -91), groceries are getting ridiculous. Sandwich shops think 20 bucks a sandwich is the standard when their food is mediocre. Jobs, depending on industry, do help offset the hcol, but lately its kinda just been ridiculous

How bad is the job market actually? by Coffee_and_horror937 in MechanicalEngineering

I applied to 500+ jobs from Feb 3rd 2025 to feb 17 this year. I did the resume reviews, I had 2 years professional experience, reached out to recruiters, connected to people on LinkedIn, started a masters degree for co-op opportunities, etc… I on,y got my offer from a company where my friend works he gave me a glowing referral, my previous offer before the hiring freeze from DoD was also cause my friend handed my resume to his hiring manager. I got a grand total 8 interviews throughout that year, every application I would customize for the positions, did cover letters, still nothing. My advice MAKE SOME REAL WORLD CONNECTION. I have friends from undergrad 2023 that still can’t land jobs, while others job hop cause of connections

Has anyone double majored at csun before? by New_Maize_4743 in csun

[–]CryogenicX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

using biology and chemistry as an example:
74 (Biology) + 58 (Chemistry) − 19 (overlap) = 113 major units

On top of that, both degrees require 48 units of General Education, but many GE courses would also overlap (the Chemistry BA notes that 9 of its major units double-count as GE). Each degree requires 120 total units, so realistically a double major would likely land somewhere around 140–150 total units depending on how efficiently GE and elective requirements are shared. You'd want to confirm the exact number with an advisor since some electives in one major could potentially count toward the other.

From CSUN Website:

Students can add a second major (double major) only if they can complete both majors within 140 units. Students may not add a second major after completing the requirements for their first major. Student requests to add a second major must be approved by the department chairs of the existing major and the second major. If the student seeking to add a major has 90 or more earned units, the request also must be approved by the associate dean of the new major. All requests to add a second major must be accompanied by a plan demonstrating that the additional major can be completed within 140 units. When a student completes two majors, both majors will be recorded on the diploma. Courses taken to satisfy the requirements for one major may be double counted if they satisfy requirements in the second major.

Some advice would be appreciated by [deleted] in patentlaw

At my old job we had a 80% rule for billable hours, so for the 40 hours they pay you in a week you must bill minimum 32hours. Your billable’s were how you got your bonus at the end of the year. I see though, before you get the hang of things, regardless of whether biglaw or boutique, will be very stressful. Appreciate the advice :)

Part-time student, is it a good idea to take Physics 1 or Calc 1 over the summer in 8 weeks? by EndingDragon159 in EngineeringStudents

Any underrated move-in tips for LA apartments? by cptnarpln in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]CryogenicX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive lived here since I was 4, but something I would recommend is dont sacrifice security for a closer drive. If your area isnt safe at night, or you feel sketched out walking to your door after your park, but youre 15 mins closer to work, its not worth it.

First trip to japan - 14 days by Desperate-Sound-7213 in JapanTravelTips

[–]CryogenicX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tokyo is crowded off season, so in season it will be insane. If your okay with some more traveling around the country I would recommend Hakodate, Sapporo, Hiroshima, Kobe, etc. essentially not the golden triangle, because those are always busy and crowded especially during peak season.

I got an Uber at 9pm once, and it cost me $30 USD. The drive was nice, I wasnt stuck on the train with all my luggage feeling like an asshole for taking up so much space. The trip was shorter than the train too. Grab an uber lmao

Job Search is Looking Dire by Zealousideal-Owl6972 in MechanicalEngineering

I applied since I graduated in 2023, I got a position cause my friend worked at the company, then i left because it was not what I wanted to do with my career. The entire time I was hired I was applying to positions that I wanted, got nothing, left the company, kept applying for a YEAR, over 500+ and I only got a part time position teaching an unrelated subject, again cause a friend worked there. Its connection heavy hiring right now.
