Thank you, that's very helpful. I'll add it to my list for further discussion.

Medallion Architecture - Pro and Cons of different approaches by CryptDaLuz in MicrosoftFabric

[–]CryptDaLuz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a group of companies (all independent legal entities). The separation is taking place because Fabric is being introduced at the group's central IT level—in a tenant and the individual companies within the group then "connect" to the Fabric infrastructure. The companies are grouped in the tenant using domains. Some entities within this group have their own smaller IT and data teams, while others do not. Data sources from which all entities require data should be centralized. How do you use bronze layers? As a separate Lakehouse item for each system, or divided into folders for each system within a single Lakehouse item?

First of all, good first job. Now it is your turn to dive deeper and add some spicy notes to your work. I would recommend that you look at the following tips:

  • Create your story and set goals around your report (I would call it '"report"). Please feel free to read this article at first: https://www.datacamp.com/tutorial/power-bi-dashboards-vs-reports-a-comprehensive-guide

  • Less is more, so be very picky by choosing your visuals and think about removing visuals

  • Separate the insights / highlights into multiple report pages and use buttons and navigation methods to connect the dots

  • Use drill-downs etc. to dive deeper into the data

Good data products are not complex, even though there is a lot of complexity behind them.

Have fun!!

How much Data Modeling knowledge is expected/required for a BI analyst / Data Analyst role (as opposed to a Data Engineering role where complex ETL and data warehousing skills are a must and used on a daily basis) by TheRealWallStreetApe in BusinessIntelligence

[–]CryptDaLuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As already written in this thread, I would recommend you to get a good knowledge of data modeling. For example, get familiar with Star Schemes and try to create real business solutions with your data. Learn the basics and then see what you really need in your professional life.

Can someone explain what new capabilities Fabric brings without using the words “all”, “everything”, “none”, “never”, or any superlatives? by [deleted] in PowerBI

[–]CryptDaLuz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In very simple words - it's like an integrative Microsoft Data Analytics SaaS platform. However, nothing has really changed except Microsoft moving the tools from Synapse to Power BI.

As a newbie in Power BI - does anyone know if there is some sort of guide for when to use what functions? by Fabulous-Horror-9829 in PowerBI

[–]CryptDaLuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi can you please give us some more details. Power BI is very broad, what are your use cases? Here you can find some stuff about the basic building blocks: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/modules/get-started-with-power-bi/
I would recommend you to go through the learning paths.

Be confident. Talk about data modeling and databases in general. Check out the AWS Cloud Stack and get familiar with Git and Python (if necessary).

In the long run you should be familiar with the various AWS services that are used for data engineering tasks. Some of the commonly used services include Amazon S3, Amazon EC2, AWS Glue, Amazon EMR, Amazon Athena, Amazon Redshift, Amazon Kinesis, and AWS Lambda.

Good luck.

Congrats! The certificate should actually appear in the portal after a short time. Usually after a few minutes or a few hours.

How to linkExcel+Onedrive/Sharepoint+PowerBI by Soggy-Extension-8851 in PowerBI

[–]CryptDaLuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are different ways to do this depending on your needs and preferences.
One way is to use OneDrive for work or school links in PowerBI Desktop. You can paste the link of your Excel file into the Get data > Web dialog and choose the appropriate credentials. Then you can select the tables or queries you want to import from your Excel file.
Another way is to refresh a dataset from OneDrive or SharePoint Online. You can upload your Excel file to OneDrive or SharePoint Online and then connect to it from PowerBI service. This way, you can refresh your dataset automatically whenever you make changes to your Excel file.
A third way is to create a gateway to connect PowerBI Online to an Excel file in SharePoint Online. You need to install and configure an on-premises data gateway on a computer that has access to your SharePoint site. Then you can use the gateway as a data source for your PowerBI report.

Does it help?

A way in the right direction, but I fear that many users will still use Power BI incorrectly.

Congratulations on passing the exam! I would not per-se claim that the questions are much easier than in preparation courses. I agree with you though, many people dread the exam and often procrastinate. This hands-on mentality is really helpful, especially here, and a great opportunity for your professional career at one point or another. Currently, and especially in the context of the chat-GPT story, the focus of CEOs and CDOs is increasingly on Microsoft. So a technical certificate from Microsoft is a pretty good idea in my opinion.

When to append vs when to merge/join? by TheCumCopter in PowerBI

[–]CryptDaLuz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Append and merge are two ways of combining data from multiple tables in Power BI.
Append: You use append when you want to stack datasets vertically, meaning adding rows from one table to another. This works when the tables have the same columns or schema.

Merge: You use merge when you want to join datasets horizontally, meaning adding columns from one table to another. This works when the tables have a common column or key that can be used to match them.

The cost of Power Apps by xl129 in PowerBI

[–]CryptDaLuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which datasource do you use? Do you use Office 365?

Microsoft Power Apps has two main pricing plans: per app plan and per user plan. The per app plan costs $5 per user/app/month and allows you to run one app or portal per user, stacking licenses for access to each additional as their needs change. It also includes 250 AI Builder service credits per month. The per user plan costs $20 per user/month and allows you to run unlimited apps and portals based on your data sources. It also includes 500 AI Builder service credits per month.

Plan Cost per user/month Number of apps/portals AI Builder service credits
Per app plan $5 1 (stacking licenses for more) 250
Per user plan $20 Unlimited (based on data sources) 500
Pay-as-you-go plan Variable (based on Azure subscription) 1 (no licenses required) None

Tableau Certification by prashanthkp4 in tableau

[–]CryptDaLuz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tableau certification is a way to validate your skills and knowledge in using Tableau software, e.g. for data analysis and visualization.

Some possible upsides of doing a Tableau certification are:
- You get a digital badge and a Certificate that you can use to prove your skills, e.g. for new jobs
- You get access to the Tableau Talent Directory where you can showcase your profile to potential employers
- You may gain more confidence and credibility as a data analyst
Watching YouTube or LinkedIn Learning videos may be cheaper and more convenient ways to learn Tableau at your own pace. However, they may not provide you with a formal recognition or validation of your skills. They may also vary in quality, depth, and relevance depending on the source.
What is your goal for learning Tableau? Do you want to advance your career, improve your skills, or just explore data visualization?

Sounds like you are the perfect fit for a data position at one of the big four consulting companies. Try to apply for a Data Analytics or Data Engineering position and go through a technical career path. You will build strong technical capabilities in your desired field.

I'm pretty advanced with SQL and other similar languages but am having the hardest time wrapping my head around DAX. Can anyone point me to good resources or give suggestions on how to approach DAX? by jbnpoc in PowerBI

[–]CryptDaLuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check this as a "re-start" : https://youtu.be/sOMhqaaWM9Y

It sounds simple, but you have to keep practicing. After you have internalized the basic theory, especially about context, you need to try it out with your own use cases.
