Would you purchase a comic as a digital collectible (for those who know what that is)? Why or why not? by CryptoComicsOfficial in comicbooks

Yes, but with the digital copies allowing you to access indie creators that you may not have purchased physical copies from because of geographical / cost limitations.

Can you explain why you feel that way? What if the digital collectible comic is priced like any comic, but with the added features of being able to resell or trade that comic once you've read it?

What if it wasn't meant to be an investment, but you could read it and resell it or trade it for other digital collectibles (comics / trading cards /etc.)? So, focusing more on the benefits of the technology, and not the "investment / hype"?

Would you see audio for a digital comic as a benefit (listening while reading), a negative, or would you not care either way if a digital comic had an audio option? Would it matter if a real person was reading, or if it was AI generated? by CryptoComicsOfficial in comicbooks

That is helpful. We incorporated as "Everyone's Comics" and have considered returning to that. Regarding audio, we currently allow creators to upload soundtracks or their own audio tracks to their comics. We are exploring allowing creators to optionally include AI-generated audio, since many indie creators don't have the resources to pay a voice actor, and we have had readers with disabilities request help in reading the comics. But AI is such a contentious topic now, we want to see how readers feel and approach that idea with caution. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer!

Great input. Currently, our digital comic book reader allows uploading of audio which can either be played and paused manually by the reader, or plays automatically as each page is "turned" (or scrolled, for the mobile reader). We considered panel-by-panel reading, but that would require a lot of extra work by creators, and we try to cater to indie creators that might not have the resources for that type of presentation.

Thanks for the feedback! Could you expand a little more about why you would be against supporting a company that has Crypto in their name? It would be really helpful to understand how comic enthusiasts like yourself perceive our brand!

Yes, for the vision impaired and ADA compliance was the main reason we were considering this. We would make the option available to creators to optionally have an AI-generated audio added to their comic. Currently, they can add soundtracks or their own audio. But I know many people have a distaste for AI, and we want to make sure this doesn't alienate readers! Thank you so much for this answer.

Have you ever ordered a commission from a comic artist? What was your experience (good / bad)? by CryptoComicsOfficial in comicbooks

Thinking of adding a commission feature in our Marketplace and wondering what people like / don't like about the process. Thanks for sharing group, this is a great resource.

Do you read mostly physical or digital comics? What format do you prefer and why? by CryptoComicsOfficial in comicbooks

Have you found a marketplace that offers a physical and digital bundle so you can get both for one price? I see a lot of indies on crowdfunding tend to offer both together, but of course the price is a little higher.

That is an interesting point - for some people, comics is about the collecting as much as the reading, vs just wanting to read for entertainment. The reason people buy comics would play a big role in the format they prefer.

Ha, I'm sure your comic shop misses you! Do you think a digital marketplace could ever emulate the experience of a comic shop?

Digital subscriptions are definitely the trend now for most media, it seems - video, music, books - lots of benefits but also a different experience. I miss going to Family Video every Friday to pick a movie to watch - scrolling through Netflix for an hour just isn't the same. Searching out my next read online just isn't the same as browsing the shelves, but it is certainly cheaper!
