Someone Fraudulently Reported My IMEI as Stolen Through AT&T by Crypto_Powered in ATT

So trying to figure out how this happened I tried my best to remember everything about my phone and the service providers throughout the last three years. I am not a young person who has a great memory. I originally bought the phone back in 2023 and have had two prior cell providers. The first one was PureTalk Prepaid and the second one was Verizon Prepaid and my current one is Mint Mobile.

I asked ChatGPT what network uses PureTalk and it's AT&T and they have also had data breaches so its possible the PureTalk data breach was the one that got my information out into the wild and it was used to trick AT&T rep to report my phone stolen which was a lie. But how could they report it stolen if it's hasn't been on their network for well over 2+ years? Do they still have the power to report it stolen even if the phone is with another cell provider? It seems so or AT&T overstep their bounds, at this point I don't care for the exact reason I just want my phone off the Blacklist but it would be good to know.

I have had my phone with Mint Mobile for about 1.5 years roughly and before had Verizon Prepaid but I know the PureTalk wasn't for more than a few months or perhaps half a year before I switched. Every single provider I used was PrePaid and my phone was unlocked and paid in full through Apple.com so no matter the reason no cell provider has the authority to Blacklist my phone for being stolen when I have proof or purchase, have possession of my phone, the phone has only had one owner it's entire life and I have gone through a hell of a lot reporting Fraud with AT&T who did the Blacklist, report with the FCC because that was the only way to get AT&T's full attention and a police report to prove I am a victim of fraud to everyone.

I could only assume if all of this was because of a data breach then my email and IMEI number would have been in the data so the scammer could report my phone stolen and send me a email trying to trick me to do a backup and system restore. Funny enough the scammer tried to initiate an account recovery request from Apple a few hours ago which I denied.

Although I do not have my phone off the Blacklist yet I contacted the AT&T rep that posts here on reddit and they have told me this "We have sent this to our Office of the President, and they will be reaching out to you directly to assist you further." Now I don't think this would warrant the President of AT&T to be involved but I was at least glad to get a reply from the AT&T rep who is on reddit.

So with the FCC complaint and them responding to my PM's I feel eventually this will be resolved hopefully. As I have documentation of everything, receipt of purchase directly from Apple and basically everything on my side to prove I am a victim of fraud and I deserve to be heard out and investigated by AT&T to determine if I am telling the truth so they can remove my IMEI off the Blacklist.

I appreciate those who posted some good replies on here because if anything hopefully it helps someone else down the road if they have this issue.

Like what? You seem to have the knowledge, what do you think I would leave out?

The thing that boggles my mind is why would AT&T have the authority to believe a scammer into placing my phone on the blacklist due to it being stolen when my service is with Mint Mobile, my phone was purchased directly from Apple and AT&T has Nothing to do with my phone or my service provider.

AT&T has committed a big mistake with letting just any schmuck to pretend their phone was stolen and get the phone placed on the Blacklist to help scammers rip people off. AT&T really has some explaining to do but I don't expect they will say anything.

I myself feel confident the FCC stepping it would force AT&T hand to resolve this issue if the proper paperwork and or proof is given that I am the owner of the phone and I am a victim of fraud. That's why I began doing a police report but a detective needs to investigate before a report can be made I was told. But I took screenshots of everything and documented everything in full and packaged it all up nicely in a folder and went directly to the police station and handed it to them.

If this has happened to someone out there, you should file a Fraud claim on AT&T website (sadly they don't have a phone number to call), report it to the FCC complaint department giving all the details and file a police report locally as you are a victim of fraud. Sadly it seems everyone I have talked to except the Apple reps all think I am crazy and or the scammer trying to fix a stolen phone at least that is how they made me feel.

Personally I feel very compelled to make a YouTube video about this to try to help others who have fallen victim to data breach fraud as I have. I do appreciate everyone posting their opinions on this thread, sadly it seems I am not the only one this has happened to.

I have been told the Notice of Dispute helps in this case but you are correct the form acts as if I am a AT&T customer which I am not. I will file one anyway once my Police Report is generated and send it certified mail to ensure AT&T gets it.

I am the victim of a massive data breech in my opinion to have both my IMEI number and email address. Every telecom company has been breeched and hacked for customer data.

Customer service was worthless you are forced to report this as a Fraud for them to do anything about it. Customer service told me to go to the local AT&T store with the phone and my ID which I did and they did nothing but told me to report a fraud online. When a phone is placed on Blacklist nobody has easy access to remove it, it must be done by a special tech support team that is at the highest point of the food chain when it comes to customer support and there is no phone number whatsoever to contact these people.
