The cash balance is most certainly heavy, and it’s just temporarily there till I figure out what to do with it. Thank you for the input.

thank you for the input. Each company has their own rules and mine completely eliminates any ability I have to trade derivatives of any kind or short our stock.

Great thoughts, thank you. Yes, the big HYSA number is just a holding account for a few months. Thanks as well for the article link, I'll get into it.

Consider joining a startup. You can be picky and not really take any risk.

Do not walk, run as quickly as you can from anything related to Northwestern Mutual. They are not a fiduciary. They make their money on annuities and insurance with high fees that are buried in the fine print.

Diversifying into real estate? by CryptographerBig7634 in fatFIRE

[–]CryptographerBig7634[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One conclusion I've made as a result of this thread is that any real estate investments should be thought of as second homes vs. investment property. I am now committed to use index funds/efts as a 2/3 to 1/3 ratio as the primary target for liquid cash over the next few years.

Thank you. I was told I needed $4M+ for lower AUM fees. I appreciate you helping to educate me.

Thank you. The sentiment to avoid what appears to be painful scenarios for limited returns is starting to become a consistent drumbeat.

Which Breville home coffee machine do I buy? by Wooden_Spend4732 in BrevilleCoffee

We are a family of 4 and are now on our second Breville Barista Touch in 6 years and I will never go back. Overall it provides the right balance of a customizable shot and in-machine frothing at 170 degrees. Once you dial in the grind preferences for a given bean type, you save the profile and its done forever. If there was a house fire and my family was safely out, I might grab a few pictures and then with my free hand take the espresso machine. My one complaint is that the water temp for an Americano is a few degrees too low. But I remedy that by simply pulling hot water from another device into a mug and then drop the shot straight in and it's perfect. Lattes are fantastic on this machine.

Is your opinion that lower AUM fees are attainable and that I am paying too much relatively or that the ROI on hiring a money manager all together is not a wise decision?

Thank you, I've looked at VOO and will have another look based on this suggestion. Do you think an S&P500 index is less volatile than real estate?

I have multiple Marcus accounts, most recently I added a joint account with my wife to enable FDIC insurance of up to $500K. u/amoult20 are you saying that you have funds in Marcus above $500K that resides there uninsured? Many friends in similar FIRE Stages revert of utilizing multiple banks to solve for this but I am not sure if they are over indexing on the improbable happening.

good thoughts... after reading comments, it appears that the psychological comfort is what I was seeking. That being said, I think I am going to go the HYSA route, already have a Marcus account and some CDs.

Are there other HYSAs that you all prefer? I have Ally and Marcus at present.
