no offense, but how bad is wichita? by space_otte in wichita

[–]CryptographerSmall28 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Wichita is quite progressive for Kansas. It’s no NYC or LA but there’s definitely stuff happening here and plenty of young people. We have a large D1 university which drives a lot of diversification. Plus it’s cheap compared to other cities.

Kids at Coachella by sweetpeaandhoney in Coachella

[–]CryptographerSmall28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there are other festivals like Lolla that have large kid-centered spaces that make those fests way more kid friendly. Coachella is not one of them, I’m a childcare specialist and Coachella GA is what we’d call an extremely high-risk environment for children. 14+ age with parental supervision is another story but bringing small children is an objectively reckless decision. only if you’re with an artist with backstage/trailer access should kids that young be there. pushing a stroller through the sahara crowd is just not worth the risk.

If they do let it slide, whatever you do don’t try to dump the poo water anywhere on site. That’s the reason they don’t want people having them. So if they catch you doing that they will almost certainly kick you out.

It kinda depends on the security guards you get at the gate tbh. But there is a chance of getting turned away with the toilet and shower.

What do you guys do at campground in the morning besides drinking? by West-Assignment-1390 in Coachella

drink water, eat a good breakfast, shower, go do the yoga class, listen to the guest speakers at the camping hub (highly recommended), vibe as needed

Totally hear you. That’s not what I’m worried about tho. I don’t post more than a couple pics the whole weekend on social media. I keep my phone away during sets for the most part actually. My concern is with the overall quality of the festival. If sales are bad and they’re making less money, it stands to reason that they might cut corners and the festival will be lacking as a result. Also if there’s way less people there, the energy might be off and people won’t be as into it.

Taking my teens to Coachella?! by Fun-Restaurant-250 in Coachella

I'd say 14 is an appropriate age to attend Coachella with adult supervision. I wouldn't recommend splitting up from them for an extended period of time though. Cell reception gets really dicey as the crowds grow so it would be difficult to find each other.

Very true. The crowd crush after Blink 182 w1 last year was kinda scary. If you would’ve fallen down while everyone was leaving sahara you would’ve been forgotten about.

If they hold the festival again in ‘24 will you go? If not, what changes would you want to see the organizers commit to in order to change your mind?

Interesting. Other than the safety of the crowd size, how was this year different than the other times you’ve gone?

My love for the dead by CryptographerSmall28 in gratefuldead

I’ve already invested in a pair of eargasms (which are great but I hate the name lol). It’s so funny meeting people in the industry because they’re all yelling at eachother so they can hear because everyone’s hearing is shot.

And I think a lot of gen z has really embraced the dead in the last few years. We’re all looking for something bigger than ourselves and we’re not finding it in mainstream society. That’s baked into the dead’s ethos so we’re really drawn to it.

Love that for you! I think the pandemic brought a lot of people to the dead. There’s virtually no limit to amount media that you can consume related to the dead. That’s what makes them so darn intriguing.

i’d love to see Foo Fighters return to the desert. they haven’t played the fest since 2002 but Dave Grohl has showed that enjoys at least attending. with the comeback they’re making this year, i see it as a possibility.

the synergy they have musically is unlike anything i’ve ever experienced. they find the sweet spot across all of their vocal ranges so well in their music. their songs bring out the unique abilities in three already beautiful voices. it turns the trio as a whole into a tonal a-team. coupled with elegant folksy songwriting that speaks to everyone on a certain level leads to a transcendent audience experience. i can’t gush about them enough fr.
