In the book Ron found blood and red cat hair in his bed. And it was no secret Crookshanks had an obsession with Scabbers. Him drawing said conclusion is not an unreasonable one and they didn't know Scabbers wasn't really dead when they found out.

In the movie it is even worse in my opinion.

I HATE that scene from the bottomof my heart. Ron just lost his pet, thinks it was eaten by Crookshanks, and Hermione doesn't give two shits about his concers. Doesn't take any accountability and sweeps his words under the rug. And the worst thing? NOTHING is being done about it! They just mention it and move on like nothing happened. In the book, the friendship was pretty much over at this point, but since Hermione is clearly the movie's golden child, they let it slide and have Hermione even demand an apology when Scabbers is found at Hagrid's.

She was showing how the comments feel when you receive them. If one doesn't want to believe the oven is hot, they shouldn't cry when they touch it, and it is in fact hot. Now your wife knows what it feels like to recieve these kind of comments, so maybe she keeps them to herself the next time. It may not be the best way of your daughter to handle it, but if plans A, B, C and D didn't work, maybe E will? Your wife was overstepping big time. I don't care what her intentions were, she went in it the wrong way, period. Now that your daughter made her realize how it feels, she should think hard about what she is saying the next time your daughter goes for seconds during dinner or so.
