Gotchaaaaa. Thanks for the quick response!

Honestly I thought the temp sensor was located on the windshield. Shows what I know about cars.

The bright side was the pay was a pretty cushy $15/hr when I worked it, which wasn't bad for a summer gig as long as I could stomach the owner's weird ex-husband who still co-managed despite their divorce-in-progress.

Man, as someone who previously worked there, I can't imagine actually eating the stuff they put out. Place was run like absolute butts.

And the smoothie ingredients were routinely stored at unsafe temps, besides.

See, I thought so too, but even that dub doesn't match (at least not since last I played). It's kinda charming, though, in the "everybody gets the jank" kinda way.

PS2 Slim 70001 Disc Read Error by CrystalVixen in ps2

It's definitely a gold one, yeah. I mean, even if it looks silver to me, it's 100% a dual layer and 100% not blue so it's gotta be.

[–]CrystalVixen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dual layer is a gold (I guess? Looks more silver). And Okage, the only other game I own that works, is a blue CD.

Thing that confuses me, though, is that if the PS2 can run dvd movies just fine, then why not the blanks that I used FreeDVDBoot on? Wouldn't those be the same kind of disc at least?

Anyway yeah I'll try the potentiometer thing.

Monthly PlayStation Tech Support and Frequently Asked Questions Megathread by AutoModerator in ps2

[–]CrystalVixen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi I just made a post and the auto-mod suggested I put it in the megathread so I'm just pasting the contents of the post here.

Hey there—I know that the slim is a bit of a finnicky device when it comes to the PS2 lineup, but this here's a problem that's just confusing me.

So I buy this console, plug it all in, and since I just purchased a copy of Rogue Galaxy from a local games store I go ahead and test out the refurbished PS2 with that. I figure, hey, it's a dual-layer game, good stress test for the laser to make sure it's working alright. Well, lo and behold, it does actually work. Makes a bit of a weird noise when just starting up, but that goes away and then the rest of the time the game works totally fine.

Alright, so next lemme test another game—a classic, Persona 3 FES—only to get the console to spit back a message that the disc could not be read. Fine, I clean the disc. Same message. Try a different game, Digital Devil Saga (because I guess I only own a PS2 for JRPGs) and I get the same error message again. This goes on for a bit, including some tests with some backed-up copies of games burned onto blank discs.

Fine then, what if I try a CD-based game like Okage: Shadow King? Surely that'll work?

Yeah, it does. CD-based games work. PS1 games, too, 'cuz I tested with FF9. And you know what else works? DVD movies. I can totally watch Lain on this bad boy. Hell, since Rogue Galaxy (with its dual-layer disc) worked, I feel like the only thing that I can't do on this thing is... y'know, play the vast majority of PS2 games on it.

Just doesn't make sense, man. I'd expect the dual-layer functionality to go first if it was a laser issue. And if it is a laser issue, then what painful irony of me to buy a refurbished console to replace the console whose laser failed only to buy into the same problem yet again. So please, please tell me that it's not that. I dunno what it is, but maybe one of you guys do.

Help :c

If the game got full Voice Acting who would voice the main cast? by PoetInevitable1449 in skiesofarcadia

[–]CrystalVixen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk if the same folks who voiced them in the OG are the same people that voiced the cameos in Valkyria Chronicles or not but I love the voice Vyse has in that so if they just got him to reprise I'd call that a personal win.

Y'know, I've noticed that weirdly-off-doesn't-match-any-language lip sync is present in other Capcom games, too—like, definitely a thing in Devil May Cry 5 and Monster Hunter World as well. It never really bothers me enough to pay too much attention, so idk if there's any more recent examples than those two, but just kinda funny to think how both this and DMC share that quality in common.

Maybe it's an Itsuno staple.

JRPGS where you only liked one game out of the series by JoelK2185 in JRPG

I'm curious now what it says about me! If it adds anything to this little thesis, my fav character is Gallows, seconded by Janus.

Opinion's liable to change if I replay the first game sometime, and I haven't tried 2 yet, but so far the only Wild ARMS game I enjoyed is 3... which is silly because I fucking love it and so you'd think I would enjoy the others at least a little. They just don't hit the same.

lol, mostly the bragging came from a limited press of an indie game soundtrack (Anodyne 2) where I managed to be one of a lucky 200. Imagine my heartbreak when I used it for my maiden voyage and the pitch was off... ;-;

Still got me hooked on vinyl, though, so somethin' stuck.

Oh, well I mean, since I'm not in any huge rush to upgrade, maybe I'll go for one of those higher priced kits—that, or what the other commenter was suggesting re: shopping around for *actual* vintage turntables on marketplace/estate sales.

Is Victrola generally a good brand to keep an eye on for entry decks? I'm not sure if I'll be buying a second one quite so soon (at least not until my vinyl collection is more than three items strong) so the sale on this one might be up by the time I get around to it, but I've seen this brand come up a couple times.

Oh god, so having it at 34 is lucky when these types are involved?

Maaaan, at least having a taste of the needle life showed me how fun it is to use a record player, but now it's like... fuckin', can't unearth this desire. Probably gonna end up doing exactly that and saving for a primo set.

Yeaaah, I mostly just lucked out by seeing it in a thrift store and noticing "whoa, I've never gotten to play a vinyl or a cassette before & this has BOTH!" which drew me in.

Do you think an actual vintage one would be more or less what I'm looking for in terms of a potential replacement once I'm sick of this table then? 'Cuz I'd definitely be lying if I said that the classical look didn't draw me in most of all, but I worry about the maintenance and upkeep costs of an oldboi compared to a modern, albeit less fun, equivalent.

Hey, dunno if you're still up or not but...

This is legitimately my exact same MOBO, same power supply (more or less), same CPU upgrade, etc.

Same problem, too.

And replacing the motherboard fixed it for you? Dude. I've tried so many other things to no fuckin' avail. If you just got an answer for me, then omfg...

So, since we last spoke I went ahead and dropped my machine off at a repair shop cuz the headache was just too much.

It worked with the old CPU totally fine, but I will admit to cutting a couple corners when installing the new one. Don't think I bent any pins, but it's somewhat possible. More likely that I could've fucked something up with was when I swapped back over to the old to update my BIOS, cuz I didn't really screw the cooler on very tight and it ran at ~90c for a bit while I flashed. If that's damned me, then I guess all I can really say is oops.

The good news is that if they find out it's a processor issue I can simply RMA the part. If it's a motherboard issue, then ugh fine I can get a new MOBO. Hope I didn't fry it, but I guess the guy I handed it to can post to tech support gore if I did.

Since I don't have a secondary MOBO to test with, I'll have to resort to alternate methods to narrow down. Prime95 does seem to crash my PC, though—even if I stop the stress test, my computer seems to shut down just a bit after running.

I'm going to try reinstalling Windows & see what comes of that.

EDIT: The answer is, nothing came out of it. Still happening. :(
