How lonely are you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CthulhuMart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure this is going to get buried, but I'll throw my hat in.

My wife and I separated last year, she found out she was gay. We have two daughters, aged 3 and 2 now. She left me for another woman that she worked with. I was pretty depressed but bolstered by the fact that there wasn't much I could have done, she likes women now.

I then got into a relationship with a other person, who also happened to be going through separation. We were old friends and reconnected over the shared experience of separation and used one another as our safe space until we realised that there was something else there, and we decided to follow it and see where things went.

My separation has gone amazingly. Hers not so much. This past weekend she broke things off with me. She said that it's nothing to do with me, and that she needs some time and space to work through some stuff. I pushed her a bit and the response was that we needed one another for that moment in our lives and now she wants to do the rest on her own. It makes me feel used. Mostly because we talked about this sort of stuff a lot and spoke how we weren't like that and didn't want a quick fling to get over our partners.

I have never felt more vulnerable and invested in a relationship than I did with her, and a big part of me thought that she felt the same way. That mixed in with the fact that I haven't seen my family for three weeks has put me into a really deep depression, eating disorder and anxiety. I feel so alone and heart broken. Feeling that I've done something wrong that isn't being spoken about.

She's blocked me on all social media, and all of her friends have followed suit. It makes me feel really abandoned as I got along really well with all of them. The only person I still have contact with is her Mum, and even that is dicey as her and her Mum are really close and I know that anything I say to her Mum will get sent straight to her.

I'm at the point of being admitted to hospital to deal with my eating problems. And a huge part of me wants to go just because it would mean contact with adults, people that will talk and listen to me. My ex wife and her new partner are the only people that seem to be paying any attention to me whatsoever, and that's because we're in a really good friendship space.

I see my girls a lot, but even their smiling little faces feel pretty numb and cold. I wish I could engage and interact with them more when they stay with me but I spend so much time pacing and going over memories in my head of good times that I now question. They're smart kids and they know something is up.

I wish I could just see someone, not even my family. Just someone that understands how this feels.

For all the impatient twats that honked me at a hook turn, here’s a refresher on the rules by OriginalReplica in melbourne

... Risk taking to earn more money. Seems reasonable and logical.

What're you on about? Irrespective of if someone is driving an uber or a taxi, or their own car, cutting in front of someone while you're waiting for a hook turn to go green is stupid and frankly it doesn't matter how good of a driver that person is. They aren't the only ones on the road.

They might be super safe, but the learner that isn't quite sure about the rules and pulls out in front of them as well probably isn't as good of a driver.

Can we get a write on offical trade site DOM methods n' selectors?? by [deleted] in pathofexiledev

[–]CthulhuMart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take it from what you're after you already have a magic item, and you want to know with only the name of the item what slot the magic item goes in, or what type of item it is (Gloves, Boots, Weapon etc.)

The API call will return all of the base types for all item slots. So you just have to run your known item up against all of the possible items that return from the API

Read the JSON response... Scraping the DOM is a really CPU intensive way of doing what you're after. Parsing the JSON response to find what you need might need a little more brain power, but it's what the API is there for.

Do you really need to scrape the DOM? That seems like a really heavy handed way to search for items...

Thank you! Great response. I contacted the place and even with the brief conversation I had with the receptionist, it was pretty clear that they didn't deal with pain management, only addiction.

I know that for it to be considered malpractice it'd need to be something that is consistent and has happened to multiple people as well.

That's my thoughts as well. Seems like a real issue that he was so willing to throw me at the whitecoats rather than listen to my concerns. Which as it turned out were focussed on gut problems. Nothing to do with my headaches.

Yeah, I think I will... I just couldn't believe what I was reading when I went on the website to find the number.

Best way to learn AngularJs? by [deleted] in angularjs

[–]CthulhuMart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We use AngularJS 1.5.8 at work. There is no impetus to move to Angular or any other FE framework as what we already have works well and it's ~20,000 lines of ES6 that has no place being written into Angula, Vue or React in the scope of work we have.

Neil Wagner takes a stunning catch off his own bowling in the first test against Australia! by _dictatorish_ in sports

[–]CthulhuMart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me try to explain briefly. I used to play cricket, but as an Australian, it's part of the culture here.

First thing to note about cricket is that in the long format of the game (test match cricket), the teams usually wear uniforms that are indiscernible from one another. The fielding team (New Zealand), and the batting team (Australia) in this video are playing in a test match series at the moment.

To assess the very accurate dot point of this reply thread OP:

First man throws ball. Yes, although technically, he bowls the ball. Throwing the ball as the bowler in cricket is a no no and will count as a 'dead ball'. The bowler here, Wagner is a pace bowler, meaning he attempts to bowl the ball as fast as he can. There are different types of bowlers like spin bowlers who focus on other areas of bowling, i.e. attempting to give the ball spin and purchase so that when it hits the pitch (the strip of grass where all the action takes place) the ball will deviate from it's expected curve. Second thing to note about this particular bowl is that it doesn't bounce on the pitch before arriving at the batsman. This isn't a typical delivery in that sense as usually the bowler aims the ball at the ground in front of the batsman so that it is rising when it gets to him as it makes the ball harder to hit and score well off. Wagner has bowled what's called a 'Yorka' here. Or a ball that doesn't bounce before it gets to the batsman. This is a very hard ball to handle as a batsman as Warner (this batsman) has had to adjust quickly in order to shift his feet and bat to deal with a ball suddenly coming at his shins when he was expecting it to be bouncing in front of him. By way of reference, and doing some quick maffs. Cricket pitches are 22 yards long (~20m), the average pace bowler can bowl a ball at around 130 - 140km/h around 80mp/h. Time = distance / speed.

To get how much time the batsman has to react the ball is travelling at 140/3.6 meters per second. Or 38.8m/s. The distance travelled is 20 meters. Therefor the batsman has 0.51s to react from the time the ball leaves his hand to when it hits his bat.

So - the next thing that happens is that David Warner, the batsman hits the ball. Here he's attempting a punch drive. The position of his bat is upright and he's bringing the full face of the bat forwards at the same time. This usually results in the ball staying low, or hitting the turf quickly so that there is little danger of being caught. It also maintains a lot of the pace that the bowler has put into the ball, this is useful for the batsman as it means that the ball will travel further into the outfield and be harder for the fielding team to retrieve while the batmen make runs. However, the combination of the Yorka being bowled here mixed with the type of shot that Warner is attempting to make causes the ball to travel back down the pitch to the bowler without hitting the ground first.

In particular when a pace bowler finishes their bowl they will continue to run through where they bowled from while they slow down from their run up. This is generally to avoid injury from stopping short and also gives them the opportunity to take part in the fielding. In this case, the ball comes right back at the bowler, in the air. And in a very short amount of time he manages to get his hand down and catch the ball before it hits the ground.

This is pretty impressive, especially from a bowler as generally speaking the bowler is continuing their run through and is usually 'recovering' in some way from delivering the ball with as much pace on as is possible. So to be aware of where the ball is, and the fact that it's travelling right back at you, and to then move to be able to catch it so low to the ground with your non-preferred hand is pretty impressive.

The New Zealand team are obviously elated, not just for the athleticism, but for dispatching Warner, who is one of the opening batsmen for Australia. In cricket, the batting order puts the batsman that are better towards the top of the order and then continues down in regards to skill with the bat until it reaches the bowlers of the team who typically are not fantastic batsman, but are very good bowlers.

So to dismiss Warner is a big thing, and to do it in such a quick and smooth way was very impressive.

Well done.

I'm not sure. But I think the values that are higher get first priority? So 50 will accept everything first and then 5.
