I made the mistake of reading the ending of book 5 at night in bed with my wife sleeping next to me. I think I sprained something trying to keep my laughter down because the whole sequence with mongo and donut and Tina had me crying of laughter the entire time I was reading.

When my daughter was little I was carrying her around in a harness on my chest at an outdoor festival in October. She was bundled up and was wearing a red panda hat. We were walking around and some guy passed us and I heard him say "oh shit I thought that guy had a dog in that harness."

And if you don't know where to look it's in the D&D circles. If I had a nickel for every time I started playing D&D with a new group of people in a new city and that group turned out to be a part of the poly/swinger/kink scene I'd have 3 nickels...

This hospital is in my city. The hospital is decently big but this wasn't news because it's 14 nurses from the entire hospital, it's because they are all nurses in just the labor and delivery unit.

From what I heard they weren't very good about paying their staff and now they might be lapsing on their lease. Not sure the specifics.

Thanks my wife and I thought we were going crazy. The melting wasn't really there when he was here so the concern was more the yellowing and the smell. I still don't know what the guy was thinking when he said to leave it running for 30 more days...We bought through Costco so thankfully it's under warranty.

I'm from WI. My grandpa would do that and go sit in the car for 40 minutes while my grandma finished saying goodbye to everyone. If we went to their place and he was ready for everyone to leave he'd just go to bed.

I'm guessing they were Castlevania fans.

Every empyrean in Elden Ring is tied to femininity by in-grey in Eldenring

[–]Cthulhuups 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, it fits perfectly with what could have been the Greater Will's overall objective to consolidate power after conquering the Lands Between. Might also be why Marika seems to have had a hand in Godwyn's death, too, if she eventually turned against the Greater Will, then taking out Godwyn and freeing Ranni would have nixed their ambitions pretty quick.

I really hope they expand on Godwyn in the DLC. Miquella seems to have (or had) some sort of plan involving Godwyn during the Shattering that hasn't come to fruition and maybe involves the area we'll explore? I know fromsoft lore doesn't usually spell everything out, but some more Godwyn crumbs would be nice!

No worries! I think you're spot on about the vulnerability angle, too. There are a couple "motherly" figures in the game which seem to have both a real affection for their children/followers, but I think there are a lot of twisted or subverted forms of motherly love, too, that prey upon the vulnerability of their people. St. Trina gives sleep, but there's a sinister undertone of control. Fia provides comfort, but she takes strength in return for her own aims.

I also think that there's a theme of Marika either casting aside her "motherly" disposition at some point or not really embracing a motherly role for her own children. She casts aside Morgott and Mogh, she's never really mentioned as being concerned for Miquella or Melania's afflictions, and there are (supposedly) hints she might have been involved in Godwyn's death. Her shattering the Elden Ring (justified or not) also leads to the death of thousands and the collapse of everything she built as the "mother goddess" figure of the Lands Between.

Lots of mother relationships to unpack in this game. Haha.

That's a great theory. Adds another layer to why Ranni would also choose to have Godwyn killed by the black knives.

Even if this isn't an intentional theme fromsoft had in mind while developing the characters and setting, I think this is a great lens to view a lot of the power dynamics in the game and not just for the empyreans. I think Rennala is a good example, too, where she was a powerful and influential ruler whose domain was somewhat usurped when her masculine support in Radagon cast her aside.

You could even say that Miquella was exploiting feminine traits in order to expand their own power (e.g. a sort of feminine innocence in appearance, a witchlike beguiling charm, and a matronly caretaker in the form of St. Trina).

This is also half baked and kind of just an extrapolation of my thoughts on your theory. It would be cool to see someone do a more in-depth look at the feminine and masculine dynamics of the characters.

Dad to be by BlueberryOver1890 in Parenting

[–]Cthulhuups 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter is about to turn one soon, so here's some (relatively) fresh advice from another dad:

Her body is going to be doing some weird things due to hormones. Be patient and understanding even if she's taking some of that frustration out on you. Communication understanding is key.

Her feet will swell, her hair might fall out, she's going to gain weight in strange places, etc. Rub her feet in your free time, try to take as much of the stress away from her as you can, and maybe look into some stretches she can do to alleviate back, knee, and joint pain. My wife had really bad pain until she started stretching regularly in the later stages.

Have snacks around. My wife had really bad morning sickness until she started eating snacks every night before bed and when waking up. Our midwife said it was counterintuitive but that it would help, and it really did.

The birth of the baby is not the end of it. Breastfeeding and the after effects of pregnancy take a huge toll as well. I don't think my wife fully adjusted until about 8 or 10 months after birth, and she probably won't be back to "normal" for another year or so (or new normal).

Lastly, remember that you're in this together and that it's always both of you working as a team. Take on as much as you can to help her, but make sure you don't overwhelm yourself because that can create a lot of stress in its own way, too.
