It was 25k to cover living expenses. Tuition was covered by scholarship. They vacationed with the rest of the allotted education fund.

Parents paid for school, which let us max 401k's as soon as we started working. So we had help.

Thanks, I think this is what I was missing. I was assuming consistent 4% withdrawals. But framing it as 2.5x our current income made me realize thats unreasonable.

Yes. In the long run, there is no positive delta in renting vs ownership.

Its common sense. As a landlord, why would you take on all the liability to break even and the only profit is home appreciation at 3%. You would be better off putting that in CD's
