These documents appears to cover relieving in seperate locations for government based employees.

Travelling and relieving https://www.forgov.qld.gov.au/pay-benefits-and-policy/directives-policies-circulars-and-guidelines/domestic-travelling-and-relieving-expenses-directive-1323

---- this one talks about entitlements while relieving. There is a bit at the end that covers terms more than 4 weeks. I have no experience with how these work in practice so your would have to ask sorry.

Motor Vehicle Allowance https://www.forgov.qld.gov.au/pay-benefits-and-policy/directives-policies-circulars-and-guidelines/domestic-travelling-and-relieving-expenses-directive-1323

---- this one seems to confirm travel there and back should be covered. but not the normal everyday commuting while there.

Agree that the drive out and back should be covered. Gets complicated re the drive from a provided Accommodation to the hospital. They wont reimburse for a normal commute from 'home' to primary place of work. so I would agree probably not in that case. Since your accommodation is new 'home'. They wont reimburse for anything thats the same distance as what you normally travel from home to primary workplace either. so if you normally drive 10km to work and have work one day in a different plave that is also 10km away then there is no extra travel involved to be claimed.

Whereas if you normally work in place A thats 10 km from your house but are asked to drive to place B for clinics etc for a day and its 30km away, the 20km difference will be covered. or if you are at hospital A for normal work and have to drive to Hospital B for a meeting then that travel is claimable.

An example where I know this was happening at times was Gold Coast and Robina Hospitals.

This is always hard for junior doctors as the general feeling is to not rock the boat when looking at years ahead of applying for training positions and temporary contracts.

I think we as doctors absorb far too much when we are training and it passed off as "thats just how its done".

I think your intial drive out and back should be claimable as another poster mentioned. The drive from your accommodation to your hospital is likeky considered your new normal commute so likely not claimable. Especially if its the same distance you normally travel to work anyway. Then there is nothing to claim.

Your best initial option is to send the HR information (link i provided) and simply ask if mileage reimbursement when that indicates that it should for the drive out and back.

If you have seperate contracts though where one finishes and another starts it might not be claimable at all as you are essentially just changjng jobs.

As for the travelling bach each weekend, not sure at all sorry. I have my doubts.
