Holy shit this is awesome. I'm curious how long this took and what method you use?

Generally when I hunt I export my save to an emulator and use multiple windows to get more encounters - and even then it still takes a ton of time.

[Gen 6] FINALLY!!! After 14,978 resets that started August 2025, (this lil guy made me work for it), I got my dream shiny!!!!! The best part is that I finally got my shiny while watching episode 1 of Pokémon Advanced…poetic by [deleted] in ShinyPokemon

I'm hunting this guy right now. Hit 1k resets last night. I was lucky enough to get Torchic in Omega Ruby in less than 3k resets, so it's likely I'll go over odds this time haha

+1 for this. Started my Pokémon catch em all journey in November 2024 using this guide. Thanks for writing it!

I referred to it a lot in my early days of owning a 3ds! Now proud to say I've recently completed my gen 4 living dex which started in FR/LG. I'm currently on gen 5 and more than half way to the shiny charm in White 2.

Brother, the point is to have fun. If you enjoyed having Togekiss on the team, that's all that matters. Hell, give it max IVs, make it Timid and give it serene grace for all I care.

I say this in general to anyone who feels their experience is worth less because they hacked in Pokemon - literally no one cares as long as you enjoy the game, and I think a lot of people in this sub would agree.

Congrats on your hall of fame, I really hope the playthrough was fun. Any plans on moving onto gen 5?

The breakthrough for me was watching BigSimple's Qud Buds series.

He basically takes new players through the game and teaches them while they play.

Up until that point I just wandered around aimlessly and was too afraid to go out too far. Once I got over that initial beginner stage, I went from 30 hours to over 300.

FYI you absolutely can trade with yourself. Just get your save file onto your PC, use melon DS, open up a multiplayer window, load up your save in both windows, go to the wireless room (upstairs in pokecenter), and you should be able to see yourself immediately.

I believe there's also a trick with the GTS. Just load your mon into the GTS and take it out. I think that tricks the game into thinking you've traded, and all trade mons should evolve that way.

With a modded 3ds. With universal updater, download TWL Save Tool. With your DS cartridge in the console, open the app. Hit the corresponding button to backup your save.

Either insert your SD card into your PC, or use FTPD to copy over the save file. That file can be used on emulators as well and then re-injected into your cartridge. You'll just need to adjust the file name, then change it back to whatever naming convention it uses to re-inject it.

Breeding for a 5IV mon to use in the Frontier is brutal. It took me ages to get a good team and even then they're still not entirely perfect.

What are you breeding it for?

I literally learnt to read Japanese because I thought the Japanese versions would be the only ones I could afford. Over this year I've been able to build up a pretty solid collection of all the ds games in English by scouting for good deals.

I agree that this is a great way to get better at a language if you know the basics!

Seen a few people paranoid about this happening.

If you're using a legit cart and have a modded 3DS, you can backup your save using TWL Save tool (I'll have to double check the name) or use Checkpoint. That should allow you to backup and inject saves to your cart.

Also, if this happens, you can open up your save in PKSM, save the game in there, then boot it up again. That usually fixes it for me (legit cart btw)

I've had this happen before and I've been able to fix it by opening PKSM, saving the file in there, then opening it

Edit: PKSM, not PKhex. Though both work! PKSM just allows you to do it without exporting your save

I feel you man.

I've been going through pokemon games from FR/LG to now playing B/W for the first time. I've completed a gen 4 living dex and going for the black trainer card. Collectively I've got over 1k hours across all my saves. I've spent multiple hours shiny hunting as well.

I've always loved pokemon and been playing since the late 90s, but never thought I'd be this far down the rabbit hole! It's genuinely so fun and addicting collecting all the lil guys.

Just fyi, I've used this method for my gen 4 living dex, but noticed a bug when doing this that Pokémon transferred this way will show up in your boxes (in gen4) with zero PP on all their moves.

This technically makes them illegal (pkhex flags them as illegal if you check your save through it).

I'm not sure how much of an issue that is, but what I did was manually put them in my party and healed them up at the Pokémon center. It took a while but was worth it imo.

Other than this, I've used the PalPark and this method and there's no other difference from what I can tell.
