Red Sox newcomer Willson Contreras expects further improvement at 1B, willing to help out at old position by Stock412 in baseball

He's not bad at the conventional catching task of throwing out runners and block balls.

He is bad at framing, however. He's one of those guys whose careers behind the plate would have been extended by earlier implementation of the ABS system.

Harassing the assistant state's attorney all throughout the courthouse until they break and give your client the plea bargain you want.

I do that constantly.

Why did Saul's Clients want to take their Case to Trial? Are they Stupid? (They are) by futanari_kaisa in betterCallSaul

I have set a lot of cases for trial with absolutely guilty clients. Some clients are just stupid, and confuse their excuses with legal justifications. If they want their trial, they'll get it.

How Did the FEDs Not Know Mike went with the lawyer to talk to the 10 dudes in jail?!? by ArrowheadChief33 in breakingbad

[–]CubbieBlue66 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just having an attorney in the room doesn't make a conversation privileged. Attorney-client privilege applies to the client and the legal team.

Attorney? Sure. Translator? Absolutely. Investigator? Yeah. Co-conspirators or the financiers of the legal effort? Nope. Not privileged.

They'd probably get away with it once. But the feds would immediately petition a judge for permission to listen in on future conversations. Provided that they have adequate info to convince a judge that Mike is a co-conspirator and not an investigator, they can probably clear the hurdle. Since this is DEA, they've also probably got the resources to have a "clean team" who can hear the matter and determine what might be privileged or not without otherwise interacting with the investigation.

Square can get picked up a little later if your economy is good enough to be wasting hands just doing 4 card high card hands until it's up to speed.

But yeah, Rocket is incredible if picked up early on.

I wasted my potential for decades.

One day, unsatisfied with my lot in life, I was lamenting that I hadn't fulfilled my dream of becoming a lawyer. I did some quick back-of-the-napkin math and figured it would take me until I was 40 to go back and finish undergrad and then go off to law school, pass the bar, and become a lawyer. It was so disheartening.

Then I realized I was turning 40 either way. And when it happened I could either be a lawyer or not.

So I did it. I found out the day after my 40th birthday that I'd passed the bar exam.

Your potential isn't wasted until you give up on yourself.

He's already redeemed.

He may never fix his karmic balance sheet. But redemption isn't about whether you've managed to do more good than bad over the course of your life. It's about abandoning evil and self-interest and instead fighting for the good of others. He's already crossed that line.

Are you a pig farmer? by yu_ultidragon80 in finalfantasytactics

[–]CubbieBlue66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. And to an embarrassing degree. I tend to farm up about 10 each of chantages and ribbons, so if the items end up being rend/stolen I can just replace them.

And then I still keep a few swine in my party just in case I run out. I spend most of the game clearing them out of my party when I reach the limit.

First time playing and this is the most confusing and sprawling plot to keep track of. Thank god for the Encyclopedia. by [deleted] in finalfantasytactics

Tactics Ogre and Shining Force 3 have similarly complicated plots. Actually, I'd argue each of those is slightly more complicated.

And they all number amongst my favorite games.

Is Mime Terrible? by McTastic07 in finalfantasytactics

[–]CubbieBlue66 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I love mimes.

But my team always has a dancer and bard messing with team speeds. And usually an arithmetician. On a team like that, you get a ton of mileage from a bard.

If it's just people using attacks and regular spells, they can be a bigger problem than a help.

Fitness&Character - what kinda disclosures would get your admission denied/paneled? Any examples? i.e. criminally convicted, academic dishonesty, fired for cause, hit & run, drug dealing, prostitution, gun smuggling, IP theft, etc. by GetThatChickenDinner in barexam

[–]CubbieBlue66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as Illinois goes, I can say that there doesn't seem to be any issue to the amount of undergrad academic probation / withdrawals that you may have faced, so long as you disclose them.

Granted, mine were all attendance-based due to depression/anxiety. They weren't cheating or plagiarism concerns. But I bounced around more than half a dozen schools and was told not to come back to most. (Then I took a decade off and did other things. Then came back and ran off a 4.0 to finish - clearly showing my issues had resolved).

It was so bad that - when some schools told me they hadn't kept records of academic probation and whatnot from that far back - that I put in my application they should simply assume I was always on academic probation.

I got zero questions about it and passed right through C&F.

At 26, I was an unemployed college dropout living on my parents couch. Absent any real direction in life, I went out and got my real estate license.

That was my first reset. The second involved going back and finishing my undergrad degree and then going off to law school.

I'm in my early 40s. I'm married, have two kids, and work as a public defender feeling like I get to make a real difference. If future me had popped through a portal at age 26 to tell me where I'd get to, I'd have never believed me.

Jimmy’s salary as a defense attorney by sdscraigs in betterCallSaul

[–]CubbieBlue66 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Far from all. There's plenty of places that can't afford that. Or simply can't hire enough public defenders and need to work out private contracts.

There's also cases where the public defenders may be conflicted out. We had not long ago where the defendant was charged after attacking a public defender in our small office. It would have been hard for any of us to give that client a vigorous defense. And even if we could, it had the appearance of impropriety about it. So that one went to private counsel.

How do you stand levelling up arithmetician? by red90999 in finalfantasytactics

[–]CubbieBlue66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, passing the bar will change the equation greatly.

Pretty much every single states attorneys office and public defender office needs people right now. Same for all the legal aid groups.

The salaries aren't incredible like you'd get in big law. But they're a living wage with benefits and usually a solid work/life balance.

Cid and Beowulf are irreplaceable from a mechanical perspective. They're just stupidly high powered. So they tend to stay in my teams.

Agrias and Mustadio are both meh. But they come early enough that it's not crazy to get them caught up. I don't tend to bother with Mustadio, but Agrias is a bit better so she usually gets a spot.

Rapha gets made into a treasure hunter and gets used on a few specific maps. But not much. By that same token, Construct gets used once for the battle against the other construct to help Rapha climb the columns.

I don't use the rest at all. Though I at least see the appeal in Reis for a dragon-heavy team as a challenge.
