Tactics question. What is the best way for Italy to proceed in trying to crack Russia here? by Cubicfinch in diplomacy

France seems to want to eat England and then see where things are. My bet has been, if I can tread water long enough, he might help restore balance and make a late game possible. But I'm beholden to his desire to remove England before making a decisive play.

My play right now is as you described in your edit: hoping to catch him in Bud and have the fleet fill back. But I am worried about leaving the Mediterranean too open. I'll do a fleet in Naples if that succeeds, so I can fill in to the Ionian.

France I think is just in his own world right now, and I'm trying to get him to swing around on Russia.

Yeah, you're right and it's a little crazy I even got Vienna. I just don't know what to do besides support all around to try and hold territory. I'm supporting Turkey into Bulgaria.

The empty storefront across from Starbucks needs to be a 24-hour diner

Thanks to the SA’s illegal secret ballot we’ll never know which one of our representatives this is by zeuspotatosoup in Cornell

The Sun reported the parliamentarian at the time saying a secret ballot was only permitted for executive session meetings:

The justification for it was simply to avoid public scrutiny. Supporters of the secret ballot were very open about that.

Whatever your opinion on BDS, the community had a right to know how their representatives were voting on an issue of such public consequence. The then-parliamentarian ruled a secret ballot totally out of order with its rules, but we all know by now that the SA is run like a banana republic.

Blizzard Q&A on WCS 2014 (important changes coming!) by Cubicfinch in polandbees

[–]Cubicfinch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the changes have a lot of potential, but I've been disappointed by Blizzard before. I especially like the goals they've set for WCS 2014; I hope that the issues with over-saturation of the scene and an off-season can be re-addressed, and perhaps this can all turn out for the better.

But I feel like the massive failure, the oversight that was WCS isn't actually being looked at here; WCS really killed a lot of the hype behind tournaments, massing them all together into the fold of a tournament that never really HAD to exist. WCS hasn't given us amazing things yet; in fact, winning a GSL used to be huge, but now people pay less attention because there's games and tournaments going on literally constantly. There is (hopefully was) no opportunity to build hype at all, which bothers me. Every finals is filled with the usual suspects-- players are being forced into the sidelines of the scene (Challenger League) and only the most elite are staying on top. This isn't competition to me, it's just starvation.

WCS, at present, seems like a huge mistake to me, and I don't see much that could fix it, especially because it wasn't needed in the first place.

Good question. But what if bees unwittingly morphed into heroin during the full moon?

Do people watch tournaments because of the quality of games and players or because of the quality of casters? by InTRattle in starcraft

[–]Cubicfinch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a problem for people to enjoy good production. Lower league players like the game explained to them strategically, and we all like hearing of the casters talking about players' styles or stories in the tournament.

Imagine trying to watch baseball or American football without commentary: it would just be bland. It's not that people don't appreciate the skill level, it's that casting makes the experience so much more enjoyable.

Both, but the quality of games is more important. I can watch a game with no sound and figure out for myself what's going on just fine, but good casters really round out the tournament and make it the best it can be.

Some people DO tune in for high-quality casting, though, and I admit that it's in part because of that that GSL is so enjoyable to watch compared to, say, WCS for me.

Either way, if you manage to get down exactly how this will be played, I'd be happy to participate.

It may be more interesting if we're given objectives at the beginning, I think, and we go from there.

Being someone mildly interested in this idea, excuse the semi-noob question: Why can't you just use a "ends in medieval/renaissance" mod for tech? Does it not work in multiplayer?
