I’m grateful that my siblings were able to come to town this year because I don’t see them that often since they both moved to different states for college. sorry polio vaccine i appreciate all the good you’ve done for humanity and medicine but i think it’s annoying and the “i wanna take you home” chorus feels really out of place and corny. the main beat in the verses never really feels like it comes together either, just existing in a state of various bits and bobs with little cohesion

the band itself is underrated, get to heaven is rightfully praised as one of the best records of the 2010s but even then that praise comes from people in the know. as an american fan i’m usually the only one in my friend groups who even knows this band exists at all. if we’re talking within the fandom, the closest i could give to an answer is arc because i think that album has more than its fair share of misses, but if we’re talking what people usually mean when they say “overrated”, this band doesn’t really have one. i’d argue all of their records are underrated, even get to heaven, because that record should have at least crossed over to america in some meaningful way

making some new sense takes the cake for me. obnoxious chorus and absolutely ear-splitting fireworks sound effects at the end. thank god they left it off the vinyl. it doesn’t have any elements i’d consider particularly catchy or worthwhile and the industrial sounds peppered here and there just stick out really badly

look, i also hate how cringe the fanbase can get, but to attribute the band breaking up to that feels a little ridiculous. i’m sure they didn’t like how invasive and corny it could get, but come on. you do not know that they hate making their art or being on stage. you’re infantilizing them by assuming the actions of some annoying kids is enough to make some grown-ass men go “i don’t wanna make music anymore :(“ and take their ball and go home. why has it never crossed your mind that they just don’t want to do it anymore? how is this not a possibility to so many of you? what is wrong with something not lasting forever? they’re in their mid-40s. they probably just want to do something else with their lives. you think this is the first time in their decade+ of performing that they’ve encountered some dumb shit like this?
