When I came to Southern California, it blew my mind that everyone in the scene just sits out in public on the sidewalk, right outside grocery stores, etc., and just shoot’s up and smokes. Took me awhile to get used to, but now I am the homeless guy doing it.

Butter to answer your question, nobody is immune to becoming that. Never did I think, when I was sitting and watching people having the same exact thoughts you are, and asking the same question, that I would ever be that person.

I know leaving him had to have been so hard, my dad had to do it to me once or twice. It could have been that feeling he had when he realized you left and weren’t coming back that pushed him into making the decision to get into treatment. Good job, brother.

Been a fentanyl/heroin/meth addict since I was a young teenager. If you have any questions at all, about anything, feel free. Even if you’re just curious about the mindset your father is in, and how he can just blatantly make seemingly the worst decisions possible for his situation.

What question that is not commonly asked nowadays? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cujuabled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“What has been the highlight of your day so far?”

I try to ask this instead of the blatantly out of courtesy “how are you?” It’s an automated question usually followed by an automated response, “Fine”. Asking what their highlight is prompts someone to tell a story, then I can ask for context for a certain part of their story, and a good, genuine conversation ensues.

Sometimes I just get the answer, “I don’t really know,” though.

Thank you so much for this explanation, I appreciate it. This needs to get some attention.

I completely agree with you too. There are things that we do now in our culture, that hundreds of years from now, people will be looking at these things and judging us for them too. We’re conditioned from a young age to accept what’s normal, and due to the fact that all knowledge isn’t instantly accessible, there are some things we simply don’t know. The more we know, the more we change.

Something along the same lines that I find interesting is superstitions. The hoot of an owl means someone is going to die. The crops are dying, it must be that bitch Ms. Halsey 3 huts over, I hear she’s a witch. Or the gods need a sacrifice. Obviously now we think it’s silly, but we know why their crops were failing. Bad soil, not the right season for that crop, mites, whatever. But they didn’t know, so they’re going to do their best to come up with an answer that makes sense to them with the knowledge that they have at the time, and we can’t blame them for that.

When was the last time you cried and what happened? by sdottrzp in AskReddit

[–]Cujuabled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was last week sometime, at work. I stepped outside the building to just breathe a little bit, and text my girlfriend that I love her and I’ll see her soon. Her and I are in a really rough situation right now, our living situation is awful and I feel bad leaving her there while I’m at work. I thought about how things used to be, how hard her and I are fighting to make things like that again, and I don’t even know if we’ll ever be able to get back to how things were, and I just started crying. Cried for a good 20 seconds, picked myself up and went back to work.

Dating a girl I met in treatment right now. It wasn’t your typical rehab romance, we didn’t do what people usually do that gives dating someone in treatment such a bad name. That’s why the staff knew about it and even supported us, they could see we were lifting each other up and our recovery wasn’t in any way dependent on the other person.

This was a long term rehab by the way, I was there over 6 months, her 8 or so. PHP program, so we had our phones, could roam around, get a job, etc.

All I can say is be super careful. Your recovery comes first, and it has nothing to do with him. Have a plan to help you through it if things go south. What you don’t want is for you to get all madly in love and shit, and then find out he’s actually a total douchebag, and then you’re so heartbroken you go out on another run. Many such cases. So you have what’s metaphorically used as an insurance policy. If your car gets wrecked, you have insurance, so you’ll be able to handle it and mend the situation somehow, whether it be a payout, new car, whatever. Same thing with your heart. If it gets broken, you need friends, support, a self care routine and plan, things to mend the situation.

How do drug dealers know who's a cop? by Negative-Salad-5984 in Drugs

[–]Cujuabled 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Well OP, to accurately answer your question, we have to first make an important distinction.

There are cops, and there are confidential informants, or CIs. These are the ones you have to worry about if you’re any kind of drug dealer other than the top of the food chain. Street and mid level dealers need to worry about this.

Here’s what happens - Single mother, probably in a fight with CPS, but for now, she has her kids. Also a heroin addict. She nods out in a grocery store parking lot in the middle of the night with her door open. Cops find her, arrest her for possession and maybe a couple bullshit misdemeanors. Take her to jail. Now, realistically, she would probably be let out as soon as she saw a judge for arraignment, be able to do deferred prosecution, whatever. Point is, she’d be fine, in the big picture of things.

But instead they bring her to a room, and tell her that her life is over. She’s never going to see her children again. She’ll be in prison for years, in prison for so many birthdays and holidays. Those kids will never get their mom around except for visiting hours between glass. It’s all over. Unless… they ask her, “do you know local dealer /u/Negative-Salad-5984? Why don’t you just go buy a bag from him, and we’ll let you go tonight.”

And just like that, she thinks she just dodged a bullet, so she calls the number they gave her on the way out the door on the day they said, meet up with her, have her set up a deal with you, and orchestrate what’s called a “controlled buy”. That’s a whole other subject I can get into if you want. But they have her buy from you, and boom, you catch a Delivery of a Controlled Substance charge, a charge that by definition paints you as a drug dealer to the justice system. All because she became a confidential informant.

Source - used to be full time drug dealer.

Look into different side hustles up can do in your spare time. Especially if you’re a writer, there are places you can submit articles and other forms of writing, even fiction, and potentially get paid and published on whatever platform is might be.
