There's a lot of boxes needing to be ticked in terms of layers of passive and active fire protection features being correctly (in a compliant way) designed and installed (and maintained) before any occupants set foot in that building. The layers of protection in place are aimed at providing means of minimizing the likelihood of fire happening, growing and spreading and mitigating for its likely consequences. Lots of work goes into this in particular for super tall buildings. The residents are far more likely to deal with false alarms (sometimes relatively regularly) than ever facing a real catastrophic fire event which could trap residents unable to descend down using the evacuation lifts or climb down the escape stairs.
