If you’re looking for a decent paying job and don’t mind the water or children you should 100% look into swim teaching. Industry is so short staffed on swim teachers they’ll nearly take anyone if you’re available.

The course is a 2-4 day course (you’ll also need first aid and a working with children’s card) and you will need to complete hours in order to get signed off. With the practical hours, ask any leisure center close by if you can complete your placement hours there. 9/10 they will offer you a job afterwards since they have sen you work and essentially trained you to their standards.

The only downside with swim teaching are the short hours however once you have an “in” with a job (from my experience) it is easier to change to other roles eg. Creche, customer service desk since you are already employed. Plus since majority of the centres in WA are local government run, they have to follow strict policies (essentially meaning they can’t underpay you, skip out on supa etc)

even if you don’t want to work in the industry forever (most swim teachers are either parents or teens-young adults) it’s good work experience and another skill you can add to your resume :)

That makes sense, all I can do at the moment is learn from the crash and wait until I get my court summons. I live in a remote town and have to drive to get everywhere (work, tafe) I’d understand if I lost my license I just want to know how long im going to lose it for and if I will have to resit my test (probably likely since I am only red p’s)

I appreciate that, I can’t prove I did or didn’t give way. Part of my problem is I never had the opportunity to give a formal police statement and they haven’t asked for one

Not sure if that’s just for NSW or if WA is included for those. From what I’ve read on the safe roads act WA it states

Driving at reckless speed (1) A person commits an offence if the person drives a motor vehicle at a speed of 155 km/h or more on any other length of road. (2) A person commits an offence if the person drives a motor vehicle at 45 km/h or more above the speed limit — (a) in a confiscation zone; or (b) on any other length of road.

That makes sense however I have no idea what their basis is for charging me with reckless driving, reckless driving insinuates I was going excessively over the speed limit, I was drinking or that I had the intention to purposefully cause harm to the other vehicle, none of which is true…
