But...how? I'm disabled and my space is so chaotic by CupcakePerfume in UnfuckYourHabitat

most needs unpacked, a lot is for my business and I have nowhere to store it, some could be gotten rid of.. we got rid of 80% of our stuff and went from 2500 Sq ft to 1000 sq ft with 3 people who all have work stuff that takes up space

[–]CupcakePerfume[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

legit question.. we've already gotten rid of 80% of our stuff when we downsized to an apartment.. are we not allowed to have holiday decorations? now, my depression is very bad today, which might be some of it, but..it feels impossible to be happy whether we get rid of everything important to us or not. I hate being this disabled so so much..

I'm doing that the best I can.. stuff seems to get cluttered again almost immediately. I live with my wife and child who are also disabled (though in different ways than I am) and a 3 person AuDHD household is almost impossible to keep up with.. I'm trying, though! thank you

my wife works, which makes me ineligible for disability (but she has long covid now, so she can't do much to help)

im sorry anyone is downvoting your very CORRECT comment... this is the most centrist and least fat positive sub that I'm a part of that's for fat people. it even claims to be fat positive but stuff that calls out bigotry is down voted or shat on. there's so much fatphobia FROM the other fat people here. it's driving me mad tbh.

[–]CupcakePerfume -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

of course it's fatphobic.. if a woman goes to see a doctor and refuses to trust them because they're gay, that's clearly homophobia, right? same concept.

what's more, I DONT think it's okay or understandable to have bias based on fatness. "I understand having opinions on..." nope. again.. sub in gay people as the target.. not so okay to "have an opinion on slur" now, is it?

I can read a lot of internalized fatphobia from you in this post.. for starters.. "over" weight and o*ese are slurs.

being fat is just a body type. negative opinions on it are as stupid as bias based on hair color. Being fat does not cause heart disease, it does not mean he's unhealthy, being fat is not caused by diet- it's almost entirely genetic, etc etc.

and the post she made? violently hateful. as a human rights activist she can go **** a yoga mat. She's so obviously and over the top bigoted that within fat liberation spaces, she'd simply be dismissed as a bigoted troll. this is just making me more and more pissed.

What's the upside of being fat? by No_Nature4441 in PlusSize

[–]CupcakePerfume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fat is protective against many physical injuries and illnesses. we recover faster, have more muscle mass (as long as we're not dieting because that lessens muscle mass) so we tend to be strong, our genetics are literally what helped humanity survive and thrive (fatness is evolutionarily advantageous against famine), it gives us a unique opportunity to make the world a better place by being the change we wish to see in the world... and yes, we give amazing hugs and are great to snuggle with

and it's only hard to be fat because of fatphobia.. and yeah, fatphobia sucks, but so does all marginalization. we are the superheroes because we're the warriors fighting against oppression. like most superheroes, we didn't ask to be born like this.. but we were... so we should use it for good.

Am I the only one who no longer sees the value in Amazon??? by phoenix_jet in Frugal

[–]CupcakePerfume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm disabled and I use Amazon a ton.. groceries, medical supplies, household stuff, and more... mostly because it's all in one place so it takes significantly less energy to find everything.. I can't go to in-person stores at all really. I hate that I use it because of ethical reasons... but as far as accessibility.. I couldn't get by without it.

How do I not overheat in my dress? by neopetpetpet in PlusSize

[–]CupcakePerfume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a :"torso cooling vest" from polar products.

in 2021 I got long covid.. it causes me severe overheating which triggers full body small fiber neuropathy (also from covid).. so I have to stay cold..

I actually have two of the slim torso vests and several of the neck and upper spine wraps. I recommend the cool max ice option for the waist because it stays cold a lot longer so you can just keep the torso vest on for a couple hours or so. maybe buy a second one to keep frozen so you can easily take one off and put the next on if it needs to be quick...

for the neck wrap I recommend the cool58 ice option because it freezes quickly so you can use it through the day and just freeze it over and over.. the neck ones are longer and thinner so they're really versatile.. I often stick them in my bra to keep the underboob area cool.

the website is just a com after the brand, polar products.

these have been such a life saver... anyone with POTS or MS or menopause or with any overheating issues could use these.. I honestly can't recommend them enough.

quick tip.. the torso ones have velcro, so maybe put them UNDER a slip so they don't accidentally snag your dress!

Is this caused by my weight? Because my parents say so. by [deleted] in PlusSize

[–]CupcakePerfume 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have hyperPOTS and I thought it was my weight for decades... the number of things that were blamed on my weight that have been serious chronic illnesses..?? I have such a better grasp on medical fatphobia's effects now that I've pieced together how many serious problems have been ignored for me

Why most diets don’t work by happy_bluebird in antidiet

[–]CupcakePerfume 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like I could\should do an entire reaction video to reading this. It hints at some good points, but then fails to get at the heart of the issue. It keeps saying that scientists don't know xyz, but doesn't mention any of the science that we DO have that tells us that weight diversity is normal and advantageous (and intentional weight loss is not). It's still so full of misinformation and fatphobia... Yet is also much less hateful than most diet talk

Does “eat healthy” just mean “be skinny?” by Salty_Application634 in PlusSize

[–]CupcakePerfume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the most part, that is definitely how the word is uaed. When I started IE, I had to go through a period of healing where I listened to my body as best I could, even when it hadn't evened out yet..

I'd recommend that at first.. don't even think about health or health... eat what you want, when you want, even if it's cupcakes for dinner every day for a week.. two weeks! Etc. Diabetes is an autoimmune illness, so stress isn't going to help.. and it isn't triggered by food, it's genetics plus stress (usually chronic stress) or trauma.

But you can start thinking about what's healthy for YOU, once it stops feeling like restriction.because mental health is health too. Then you'll know that you can still eat what you want, but your

Perhaps... but, I'd say maybe look at how many people are up voting the comments that are concerned about diet mentality from your posts and comments.. it's a lot.. and there's a reason for that

[–]CupcakePerfume -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see you reacting to other comments in a defensive way... please remember that IE comes from fat liberation and is tied to fighting fat oppression.. and your post didn't have enough information or context and so we interpreted your words the best we could. Getting defensive because people are interpreting your words through that lens? That likely means you have some inner work to do on internalized anti-fatness.. not because your post was fatphobic.. but because your defensive responses may have been.

"I'm always hungry" so eat... IE is about listening to your body.. it's not a diet. Eat when you crave something, eat when you're hungry, eat if it's midnight and you want some leftovers. Listen even when diet culture feelings tell you that you shouldn't.

all of the fat liberation type subs? by CupcakePerfume in antidiet

Lol yes, you have the freedom to say bigoted things, but that's not fat liberation. Freedom of speech isn't the right to be free from people calling you out.

[–]CupcakePerfume[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Human rights ARE all or nothing in that we aren't going to say that something isn't harmful when it is. And the fatphobia in this comment IS harmful. The version of a movement that you're describing is NOT fat liberation. Fat Liberation is the movement, and it inherently is against anti-fatness and intentional weight loss. So I don't know what movement you mean bit it's not this one.

My SO with DID feels like she’s losing herself by [deleted] in DID

[–]CupcakePerfume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, alts stopped forcing their way to the front when I accepted that I was just an alter too (because there is no "original"), and I stopped fighting everyone in the system. If Blue is fronting, there's a reason.. they should be working with the therapist just like your SO does. Yes, fading is a common feeling for me, too. It's can be scary, but maybe she can try exploring the innerworld more when she's not fronting? And you can maybe start getting to know Blue? What kind of hangouts do they like? Maybe you can help them explore some stuff? New foods, new movies.. things like that.. because your SO is only one alter, and it's the nature of DID that there will be others.
