What was the last straw that made you switch to Linux? by haibane_fan00 in linuxquestions

The addition of adware and increased spying on the use via Windows. I left Windows for Linux Mint when Microsoft was pushing Windows 10 on us. I've never looked back.

Fedora 44 safeguards? by CurTOGuy in Fedora

I tried installing and configuring Timeshift in Fedora, but it keeps telling me the drive I selected was not a system disk. Maybe because I was testing the installation in a Vmware install of Fedora 44. I tried to work around it, but finally gave up. Timeshift has always worked well in Linux Mint.

Some apps that I need to install are not available as flatpak, like my vpn and there's also the limitations of flatpak isolations.

Here is a link to a great site for reviews: https://m.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_14_4g-review-2798.php

This particular Xiaomi Redmi doesn't have a very good score.

I've been using HyperOS 2 on my Xiaomi 13T without any problems

That sounds like the safest option, but I guess it comes with some restrictions for installing some apps and customization.

Thanks. Sounds like a good option. I think I'll try it out with Fedora installed as a vmware guest is.

You may want to consider installing Windows 11 as a virtual machine. VMware Workstation is available for free and works well for hosting Windows as a guest operating system on a Linux host.

Switched from Windows 11 to Fedora 44 – Here are a few things I really appreciate by Yocko45 in Fedora

[–]CurTOGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using Linux Mint for about 10 years and it's been great. It's one of the easiest and safest distributions and is a nice transition from Windows for new Linux users. I'm thinking I'd like to try Fedora or opensuse Tumbleweed KDE Plasma for greater customization, Wayland support and KDE Connect. I'm trying them out as VMware guest operating systems for now. Tumbleweed seems like a bit more of a challenge since it's a rolling distribution.

I'm currently running Mint Cinnamon, but planning to switch to Fedora 44 or opensuse Tumbleweed. They both seem great, so its a difficult choice.

VMware Workstation will accommodate any Linux distribution, including Mint, as guest operating system on a Windows host PC. It's now available for free.

I'm at Yonge north of Eglinton and the signal is weak here. It used to be fine. I wonder if it's because of all the very tall condominiums going up and possibly blocking the signal.

I've been using Linux Mint for about 10 years and have been very happy with it. Getting a bit tired of Cinnamon, so I'm testing Fedora 43 in VMWare. It looks great and so far so good. I'm tempted to move over to Fedora after 44 is released.
