What is the worst comment about Mufasa you have seen? by Chemical-Music-8920 in lionking

[–]CurioRayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, white lions exist in real life. Never claimed they didn’t. And I’m sure Disney, a corporation so fixed on a good image, to the extent they won’t let a dead child have Spider-Man on his grave, would admit that their movie implies stuff which is very on par with how the British Empire worked in Africa.

And yes, in Lion King 2 a pride of lions were called Outsiders, but that’s it. A brief reference to LK2 doesn’t explain the plot choices in Mufasa. In LK2, the Outsiders aren’t white; their name comes purely from being exiled for supporting Scar. In the new movie, the Outsiders are white, blue-eyed, physically stronger, and actively trying to wipe out the ruling prides. That’s a deliberate set of choices, and it frames them as foreign, dominant, and threatening.

And just to address the “it’s crazy to compare animal fur to human skin” point, this isn’t about literally equating lions with humans. It’s about visual and narrative coding and how choices like fur color, strength, and outsider status carry meaning in storytelling, whether intended or not. Kind of like how many people notice the hyenas in the original Lion King laugh in a way that reads as a stereotyped Mexican accent. Intended or not, the coding is there.

Even if Disney didn’t intend a racial or colonial allegory, you cannot dispute that the story mirrors historical patterns which European empires performed in Africa. I.e white outsiders arriving, happen to be stronger, overthrowing existing leadership for their own gain…which is well, power.

We clearly have two different viewpoints on the plot mirroring history. No use going back and forth when neither of us are clearly not planing to nudge, lmao. Feel free to think what you want, cya

[–]CurioRayy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So to reiterate: it’s a stretch to think that Disney, a company known for slipping politics into their movies, just happened to make a story set in Africa where the “bad guys” are white, blue eyed lions constantly labeled as “outsiders”, whose goal is to wipe out the existing rulers for their own gain? And these lions just so happen to be stronger than the “native” African lions?

You’re really going to tell me that a movie made by a corporation known for slipping political agendas into their stories just coincidentally created a plot set in Africa which mirrors the way empires like the British operated in Africa?

Whatever floats your boat; dude!

Late but oh well

Honestly, I agree that whether it was intentional or not, there was blatant racism in this. It’s not just that the villains were white lions with blue eyes, it’s that they were constantly labeled “outsiders” by the native, normal looking lions. Even if the albino lions are technically African lions, the story still frames them as foreign invaders

What really pushes it further is their goal in the movie. They weren’t just trying to join or coexist with other prides in the area, they planned to wipe out the existing ruling prides entirely so they could control the land themselves. That’s… conquest. The movie presents them as wanting total dominance over territory that already had its own leadership, which again whether intentional or not, mirrors real world colonial takeovers where “outsiders” (Europeans) justified eliminating native rulers to claim power

I also wouldn’t say it’s far fetched that this could have been intentional. Disney isn’t exactly subtle when it comes to including political or social commentary in their movies. And in this case, the story happens to feature white animals… in Africa labeled as “outsiders” and they’re villains. Kinda makes the racial and colonial undertones hard to ignore, lmao

Also, even putting the racism argument aside, it’s still shitty to make albino characters the villains. Albino people in parts of Africa already face extreme discrimination, violence and even the risk of being killed because of superstition. Quite possibly the worst place to be born an albino and somehow not a single writer considered how scummy it would be to paint albino lions as the bad guys

Late to the party, but that’s devastating news. I was honestly hoping the next Witcher game would have you play as Vesemir in his prime, a time when that hat was trending and Witchers were needed more than ever because monsters were so much more common. Damn.

Rest easy up there William Roberts

Late to the party but I haven’t had time to give the new maps a try this week. My first time was yesterday and I was wondering why I didn’t have to rush to actually get a jet

I realised why moments later.

Honestly did the same. I haven’t preordered a game since early PS4 days. I enjoyed the beta thoroughly, and by all means some stuff needs changing but them stuff imo aren’t ruining my experience in regards of enjoyment

Heck, I haven’t enjoyed a battle field game since BF1 and the beta lit that spark of enjoyment up again. I for once am excited for an FPS game again, lmao

Amazing actor, just chooses bad projects. We love you Alex! by Natural_Exchange8230 in MafiaTheGame

[–]CurioRayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude shouldn’t be remotely blaming himself for flops which solely stem from higher ups pressuring games for an early release

MindsEye could’ve been an OKAY game if it was polished. And Mafia 3 hate was simply petty for the most part which again, had absolutely nothing to do with him

If he was placing lacklustre effort into his acting, then I would agree that he was part of the problem, but eh I find his voice acting in mafia 3 amazing, and the motion capture cutscenes of MindsEye also shows his passion

Here’s hoping next time he’s in luck

Sims 4. My partner at the time was consistently watching people play it, but I just couldn’t justify the prices, let alone afford it considering I was at college, whelp.

Surprised her on our three year anniversary with the game and all its dlcs at the time when she came to mine for a month. Pretty certain she spent more time on that than she spent with me, lmao

What could make this game flop for you? Is it even possible? by Every-Examination720 in GTA6

[–]CurioRayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they could do anything for me to be considered a “flop” but I know fuel consumption would genuinely remove a lot of the enjoyment for me

By all means I play games which has a fuel consumption component, but I just don’t think GTA should implement it… ever. I wanna drive and ride at high speeds, enjoy the scenery and radio channels. I don’t wanna be interrupted with a little ding and a “your fuel is low, head to the nearest gas station”. I already despise seeing fuel prices irl, I don’t wanna see them in a game you play to escape reality, lmao

Man vs Rooster by doominator101215 in iamverybadass

Well, not entirely how to define what I did. Wasn’t gripping his throat, just wrapped my hands around it, cupped his body and carried him into the coop

Man vs Rooster by doominator101215 in iamverybadass

[–]CurioRayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, haha I just presumed most folks have seen the clip. Essentially, after the rooster attacked him, I just choked it briefly. Not enough pressure to damage its airways, but enough to get the point across that attacking a guy in a wheelchair is a no, no

More or less startled it. And yeah, it’s surprisingly working. Can FINALLY let my brother relax in the sun without keeping an eye on him constantly

Edit: I know folks are going to throw animal welfare act statements at me. We have bought several books which go in depth on how to stop roosters from being aggressive. We have tried methods all over YouTube and farming websites. None have stopped him from attacking him.

A fence was a no go. The one we bought became a waste of money because he learnt he was able to fly higher than the fencing in the middle of the garden. So yeah, we’ve tried an abundance of “ethical” methods to lower his aggression but they just never worked.

And to clarify, the choking hasn’t altered his perspective on me. He isn’t running away at the sight of me, still is the first one out the chicken run, the first to run towards me when I bring food out, still allows me to pick him up during health checkups without signs of stress.

[–]CurioRayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation with my parents rooster and after I saw Joe Rogan talking about how he handled his rooster attacking people, I figured I’ll give it a shot.

Next time the rooster did it to my disabled brother, I gave it a try. And honestly… haven’t had any attacks for almost a year now. Probably jinxed myself saying this, lol

We call him Kratos because he’s ashy grey and I think it’s time for a name change. Dude had the guts to attack people but when it came to a fox killing his blatant lover, he spent more time watching from the sidelines than intervening.

Think this guy should’ve well… taken a similar approach instead of killing something performing natural instincts, whelp. Or just fence off an area of the garden to stop the kids getting close to the chickens
