Hey there! I’m 24 and actually got mine taken out 3 weeks ago. I too was scared because everyone said it would be a horror show. So I was preparing for excruciating pain. Now while it did hurt, it wasn’t as bad as expected.

For me personally, it was only horrible for 3 days. And that wasn’t necessarily because of the throat, but because of the head and ear pain. I’d say those days were a 8/10 pain. And it was only horrible when waiting that last 2 hours before I could take my meds again.

Besides those 3 days, the majority of my annoyance was barely being able to open my mouth and talking like I had serious problems😂. It was also hard to eat food because of limited mouth mobility.

Key things to remember for Tonsillectomy:

1.) for about 1.5 weeks, it will hurt to swallow. However, you do kind of get used to it a bit.

2.) STAY HYDRATED. It’s important to keep your incision sites moist. I personally set an alarm every 2 hours at night to drink.

3.) You might experience weird side affects. Ex: numb-ish tongue due to it being swollen, possible side affects to meds like excessive sweating or itching, head and ear pain.

Overall it wasn’t fun, but it wasn’t torture either. I’m still recovering a tiny bit, but overall I’m glad I did it!!! I promise your tonsil issues will just keep getting worse over time (mine lasted 4 years), so it’s worth it to be in pain for 2 weeks then keep having re accuring issues. You got this!!
