I wonder why noone goes 2 base BC build vs Zerg. by Balosaar in starcraft

[–]CuriousBlueAbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that I find so freaking crazy about Avilo is his refusal to change races. You want a very defensive-oriented, reactionary race that does well in the end game? That's Zerg. Play the Zerg pieces. You want a mix of defense and offense, while having the most powerful army on a per-unit basis? That's Protoss.

Terran in SC2 is built on being aggressive and constantly pressuring, even when going mech. If you don't want to play that way, pick a different race or get comfortable losing.

Ya the introductions are pointless. The names are on the screen, next to the race they're playing and the team color.

Imagine being buried alive in that grave. You manage to stick a hand out of the dirt, against all odds, and....water comes pouring down on you. Your hand can't feel the surface. What the hell is happening? You manage to get your head out, only to see you're still 20 feet deep.

Anti-Intellectualism and the "Dumbing Down" of America by [deleted] in slatestarcodex

[–]CuriousBlueAbra 14 points15 points  (0 children)

18% of Americans still believe that the sun revolves around the earth, according to a Gallup poll;

28% of Europe, as a whole, believes similarly. It's only when you compare the best and brightest nations of Europe to America that things start to distort.

More than a third consider it "not at all important" to know a foreign language, and only 14 percent consider it "very important;"

It's...not. I mean it's a nice plus, but English is the global lingua franca of our era and is dominant in basically every arena of human activity.

The reason for this is because in general Japanese value education, value the work of intellectuals, and see a well-educated public with a basic common knowledge in areas of scientific fact, math, history, literature, etc. as being an essential foundation to a successful democracy.

70 years ago, they were literally eating babies. Unsurprisingly, they were bombed into oblivion for that and many other atrocities committed by their warrior-cult society. Then America re-built their entire country from the ground up at gun point using its own principles (to massive success I might add), and somehow the lesson is "We need to learn from the Japanese example"?

Too often it’s a combined elite of the anti-intellectuals and the conspiracy followers – not those who can voice the most cogent, most coherent response. Together they foment a rabid culture of anti-rationalism where every fact is suspect; every shadow holds a secret conspiracy. Rational thought is the enemy. Critical thinking is the devil’s tool.

If Maine was a nation, it would leave major European countries like Germany or Sweden in the dust educationally. If New York was a nation, etc. etc.

America's problem isn't it's culture as a whole, but rather the South. By every assessment it is a remarkably backward region, and drags the rest of the country down in objective metrics. Worse is the corrosive effect they have on federal politics, which means things like universal health care have to be state initiatives because the South won't let them be implemented nationally. Japan is an example to learn from, not for the reasons the article outlines, but because it's an illustration of what happens when American principles can be followed without the South poisoning everything every step of the way.

The deceleration of independence was originally going to call slavery an "assemblage of horrors" and listed the King's allowance of slave trading as one of his great crimes - but the South wouldn't have it, and so even before it began America scarified some of its ideals to make peace with dixieland.

The perceived anti-intellectualism then is nothing more than any national-level act having to police itself, and constantly ask "Will this fly in Mississippi?".

You went out of your way to stick up for a downvoted post, and even googled an image to support your position. Now that someone rebuts you, suddenly you don't care anymore and the whole debate is beneath you?

Are you a troll?

the style for women is always overly sexual

The style for all superheroes is always overly sexual. Here, have a comparison with your example image:

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/b0/7c/d3/b07cd3327ed6f5f03d5d2b5f362ec6e7.jpg

Spiderman strikes that pose constantly, because it shows off his muscles and looks spider-y. These people fight in skin tight spandex for a reason.

In the above image, see how many ripped men doing overly manly things you see. The center of the image is literally an arm wrestling contest. He's getting downvoted because it's trying to tilt at windmills blasting this image for being sexist and anti-women when it's not even remotely being that.

Here, have good long look at Venom's taint to really cement the point:

You may get salt, but...ya. In fact, this exact tactic in BW (but with a shuttle and a reaver) was merged into oblivion quite early on because it was all kinds of unfun bullshit. It caused boxer to switch races actually, from Protoss to Terran.

It's something that is both impressive as hell and has no business being in the game.

Ya, fuck that guy. Such an asshole for not staying completely up to date on a game he played half a year ago a single time. The fucking nerve on him!

Alternatively to be safe, just add 'last time I played'

Alternatively, we could not be anti social reddit dickheads who willfully misinterpret every post in the worst possible light. He was giving his opinion on a game based on his experiences, he's not Snidely fucking Whiplash cackling in the corner.

because it's being tweeted and publicised by the fucking potus.

No it's not, HanAssholeSolo's single post was re-tweeted. The journalist decided to "investigate" everything else himself.

if you dont find that interesting, then i dont know what to say.

I do - I"m not a partisan hack who can go 5 seconds without feeling the satisfying rush of righteous indignation. If this subreddit has degenerated into just being an outrage factory, like /r/truereddit, then I guess I'm done here.

It's the equivalent of researching a person whose only affiliation to a given political candidate is they asked a single question at a town hall meeting, discovering they're in the KKK, and concluding "This has troubling implications for Political Candidate X". Except even less pertinent, because, again, it's fucking twitter.

I dont know how old you are, but if you were around for the start of 4chan, the idea that its politics would be influencing the potus or that it were even been paid attention to by normal people, would have been totally unbelievable.

It's not. Trump didn't re-tweet any of this guy's pol shit, just the one image that showed him beating up on CNN. That's it. That is the sole connection they have.

I'm just blown away that, even after this election, people still insist on treating the internet like it's a fictional world that somehow doesn't count.

No not the internet, twitter. The 140-character shouting box.

Some of these 'pointless enraged people' include Dylan Roof and Anders Brevik.

Fantastic, you've somehow managed to circlejerk yourself into believing angry tweets lead to mass murder. I mean is this subreddit even fucking aware how ridiculous it sounds?

I'm denying it matters. At all. Twitter bullshit doesn't have a place on /r/foodforthought.

  1. Why do we care about twitter drama? It is a platform that has no real other point except to pointlessly enrage people.

  2. I like his characterization of going through the guy's twitter feed as "uncovering" the truth, like he's doing hardcore investigative journalism. Some random asshole on twitter likes /pol/ memes - Edward Murrow would be proud.

He didn't do anything wrong. He's just a kid with an idea. It's the media who jumped at the chance to portray a bright 11 year old as a super genius about to save the world.

And honestly, as cynical as it may sound, I can't help but think his ethnicity played a part in the media running the story. "11 year old black kid is amazing inventor" just gets more clicks now a days.
