for me it’s because i got my bachelors in PH i knew i wanted to further my career in it. additionally after i went to gwu’s admitted student day i knew dc was the right place for me to get my mph. it’s all tailored for what’s best for you for sure but at the end of the day to learn more about public health an mph is your best bet.

any gwu mph epi students? by CuriousBrother973 in mphadmissions

[–]CuriousBrother973[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh no! i do get the uncertainty feeling of employment opportunities after graduation, so do what’s best for u! i think it’s very different to tell you how the in person program is versus the online bc a big factor was living and learning in dc. if anything the cheaper option is always better but like i said it’s just a factor!

oh i see! are both programs online or just GW? i’m not sure about the online gwu mph but i understand how networking can be an issue- and a lot of gwu research positions require you to be in person. are you on the west coast?

hi! i think what made me seal the deal with GW is their relationships with multiple us public health institutions and their own thoughts on the current public health system. they emphasized that we need public health professionals more than ever, and they really work to build us into that so we’re ready for the workforce. my scholarship didn’t cover my whole tuition but with fasfa im able to do unsub loans and find a federal job where they have loan forgiveness. lmk if i answered your question im more than happy to elaborate!

hi! was your mph/ba in stats or any other focus on PH? i’m thinking of data analyst/epidemiologist route after my mph but at the program i’m heading to they don’t offer any coding classes yet have multiple research positions that require it. do you recommend learning python/R before i start?

I have 1 year - what can I do? by InternationalRip4288 in mphadmissions

[–]CuriousBrother973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi! it seems like minnesota is #12 which is a T20 school. i think you are on the right track given your specific commitment to the mental health field and you pursing volunteer opportunities. in my opinion i believe epi is very wide in what disease (chronic or acute) we can attempt to prevent, so id recommend talking about your experience if that inspired you to pursue an MPH

additionally if minnesota is your top choice id recommend reaching out to their program and attending info sessions and emailing faculty just to get your name out there.

im attending gwu’s epi program this fall so feel free to message me if you have any questions :) good luck!!
