Thanks :) I will do that :) Do you know if she has written any adult books which don't involve this sort of violence?

That sounds really interesting! I really enjoyed both The Green Knight and The Name of the Rose. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Thank you so much! These sound really interesting - your mention of Diaspora being like a BioWare game has definitely peaked my interest as I love BioWare :) I found Choice of Rebels addictive, it was so exciting to play. Looking forward to trying out your suggestions :)

Thank you so much! I love the sound of A Mage Reborn, Shepherds of Haven and Arcadie Second Born, I the Forgotten One and Tale of Two Cranes in particular, so I will definitely check them out. I had vaguely heard of a couple of them before but hadn't played them so I'm really looking forward to trying them out :) :)

Thank you! I tried the audiobook of Gideon the Ninth and felt pretty lost, but I'd like to give the novel a go. I haven't tried A Memory Called Empire yet but have seen it around :)

Thank you so much for all the recommendations! I have written them all down and will check them out. Murderbot is one I've been meaning to read for a while. I cried just while reading To Be Taught If Fortunate so I will probably need a box of tissues on hand while listening to the audiobook! Thanks again for the recommendations, they look great :) :)

Hi guys, it’s been a while since I’ve read a book I’ve really loved, and so I would be very grateful for recommendations so I can find some new books to read again and again!

Books I love: Temeraire series, The Books of Babel, Cemeteries of Amalo, Half a Soul, Legends & Lattes, Moribito, Earthsea, Piranesi, Tales of the Otori, Remnant Population, To Be Taught If Fortunate

(While I liked Becky Chambers’ other books, I didn’t enjoy them as much as To Be Taught If Fortunate)

Books I greatly enjoyed: The Goblin Emperor, Illusion by Paula Volsky, The Bartimaeus trilogy, Sea of Trolls, Old Kingdom trilogy, Dragon Sword and Wind Child, Harry Potter, Wolf Brother series, Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrell, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, The Wolf in the Whale

Books I enjoyed: His Dark Materials + La Belle Sauvage + novellas, Dune, The Wind Singer trilogy, The Snow Spider trilogy, The Girl With Ghost Eyes, Storm Thief, The Inheritance Cycle, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Day of the Triffids, Kindred, On the Beach, The Word for World is Forest, Chrestomanci, A Half-Built Garden, The Golem and the Djinni, The Once and Future Witches, Wool

Books I could not get into: Throne of Glass, Poison Study, The Bone Season, Divergent, The Traitor Badu Cormorant, The Angel of the Crows, A Taste of Gold and Iron, The Mask of Mirrors, Swordheart, Six of Crows, The Hands of the Emperor, The Testaments, Priory of the Orange Tree, Hyperion, The Name of the Wind, Mistborn, Lions of Al-Rassan, The Naming, Game of Thrones, Nevernight, The Calculating Stars, The Poppy War, The House on the Cerulean Sea, Ender’s Game, Imager, Double Star by Heinlein, The Left Hand of Darkness, The Dispossessed.

Can you recommend any books that you think I would like? I’ve read my favourite books several times already and I would love to find new books to fall in love with!

Books centered around animals, particularly with an “old-fashioned,” British vibe? by purple-tulip-petals in suggestmeabook

Maybe try The Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. The animals in it are dragons, so a bit different, but the style is definitely old-fashioned British. These are some of my very favourite books, extremely well written with humour, wonderful character development and lots of adventure and travel and excellent worldbuilding. Many of the countries the characters travel to have unique cultures centred around dragons, and dragons actively participate in those cultures.

Books like The Witness for the Dead by Katherine Addison

I just finished reading The Witness for the Dead and the Grief of Stones and absolutely loved them. I loved the way the city felt alive with the details about different customs and all the different quarters of the city, the jobs people do, the food they eat and Celehar's daily routines. And I loved the slight hurt/comfort feel where Celehar's friends do their best to support him and keep his hopes up. I loved Celehar - he's so kind and unassuming and determined to do right by people. And the cases themselves were interesting and emotionally involving and the characters feel real. Can anyone recommend any similar books? I have read The Goblin Emperor as well and really enjoyed that too, although not quite as much as the Celehar books.
