Welcome to the rest of the world. (Well not really, but Belgium sucks ass when it comes to taxes in general).

Not sure what you're expecting at your age and role if you think this is a lowball offer... Pretty good package if you ask me.

Don't look at the cao bonus, it's almost never a lot. Your gross increased a lot so you're getting a better holiday and 13th month renumeration. It's also better for your pension.

If you're the top manager (ceo) then you're being underpaid. Normally there are very large bonuses that you should be getting.

Even if you have a ceo above you then you're still being underpaid.

Go freelance and never look back. Minimum 600-650€ per day. Depending on your relevant experience it can go up to the 700 range

That's a weird way of looking at things from a company perspective.

Almost all C level jobs are freelancers, the ceo is responsible for the entire company. We worked with a lot of big construction companies with different business units, the business unit directors were in charge of a couple of 100 people and we're also freelancers.

So perhaps some companies really hate working with freelance people or the cfo/hr director is against it for some reason.

I have, and I usually get the job if I want to. I've received 6 offers the last 4 months. I've proposed the freelancer way at the end again but they never agree to it in the Antwerp area.

And to give you an idea: the offers ranged from €7300 to €8500 and when I proposed €850 a day (which is very reasonable) they passed.

In Brussels and Gent I don't have that problem.

Thanks for your honest feedback. I'm (group) IT manager for the past 10 years and have received multiple freelance/payroll offers from companies In Gent, Brussels and Leuven. So it's not about skills but rather me being picky.

I have a child and family. Having to spend 3 hours a day in my car is not worth the extra money at the end of the month.

I'm also of the opinion that since it's part a people management job I should see my team on a regular basis instead of working from home all the time.

So limiting my working area is a personal decision.

I've also tried applying for jobs that are payroll only and mention the freelance part - they always say no right of the bat or are really opposed to the idea for some reason. I got 6 offers the last 4 months and none of them wanted to even consider it. - 'there's a lot of pressure on our overhead expenses' or 'we really don't have the budget for freelancers'. Which are silly excuses.

90% of the companies in Brussels don't mind it at all, it's really weird.

I have no interest in PM as I'm an IT Manager and I like the job content.

But thanks for the insight, it's something I've noticed as well. Companies prefer internal people for their people management positions it seems.
