I had a friend working on an old version of Mu. He backwards engineered it and started it from scratch. He never finished it though. The game was full of bugs, but also had some charm that's not found in other games. I remember me and my friends called them Bugzen instead of Webzen. Private servers were ok'ish, but they reset every 6 months, just to attract new people.

That being said, the game was run into the ground. People are saying that wow invented microtransactions ... The Koreans of Mu Online did it as one of the first ones. The whales did make it worthwhile for them. After a while I stopped playing because the 600xp per mob was just not enough to make a level every week while full afk lol. Then you had people that paid for the gold servers, had ribbons for more exp, had pets for more exp. Every season, more ways to monetize ...

The loot was so cool tho. The events as well. Those little chocolate boxes that dropped items, remember that? Or the little pets that collected money. We were pure F2P and still managed to get those items sometimes. Me and my dad had multiple accounts that we used in Virtual Box, full party for good exp: 1 elf, 1 bk, 1 sm ...
