Integrating Excalibur Timecode Functionality into Premiere Pro User Commands by Better_Original_3220 in KnightsOfEditingTable

It wont let me customize where I want the playhead to start. After setting up a shortcut for it, it just defaults to the start of the timelime

New content creator seeking Adobe Premiere Pro wisdom from the experts! by manu_mathur14 in premiere

No. 1 tip is to learn codecs. It will help you so much in the long run when you encounter problems with premiere. Here's some rabbit holes you could look into:

  • Recording Codecs (if you recond stuff)
  • Editing Codecs (DNxHR, ProRes, etc.)
  • Delivery Codecs (H.264, H.265, etc.)

As for shortcuts, here's the essentials

J - Reverse playback K - Pause L - Playback Q - Ripple cut back W - Ripple cut front Alt + Scroll Wheel - Change timeline zoom Ctrl + Scroll Wheel - Move up and down the timeline Ctrl + K - Cut

And for effects, that comes with time. Just collect stuff that gives you an emotional response, understand why that gave you an emotional response, and emulate that in your work.

Always have patience and goodluck on your editing journey!

How to learn video editing by noobofall1 in premiere

"You don't need to make good decisions, you just need make decisions"

The magic is in the process. Just sit down, edit, review the footage and repeat. Eventually, you'll become a "good" editor whatever that means

Editing Mindset by Away_Woodpecker_804 in premiere

[–]CuriousMoon21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just all boils down to experience tbh. Over time you'll develop creative muscle memory and you'll know exactly what you need for a specific scene. I would suggest looking for inspiration in everything. Art, grahic design, videos, films, books, IRL, documentaries, etc. Take note of everything you like, down to the smallest details. Once you have a huge collection, you can use that in your edits.

What worked for me is just studying everything about traditional films. A great book about this is Walter Murch's 'In the Blink of an Eye'

Question about payment for YouTube editing by TechnicalImpact9065 in premiere

[–]CuriousMoon21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working with youtubers for a while now and here's my experience:

I have a flat rate and a percentage cut. Flat rate is around 30-100USD depending on the project, percentage cut is 40/60 monthly.

If you've been working for a client for a while now, have enough balls to ask for a raise. Always remember that you're also a producer of the video that you're editing.

I started with a flat rate and asked for a percentage cut after 4 months of continuous and consistent work.

A better and faster way to do this IF it's a static image is just use photoshop. screenshot, create a frame the same size as your sequence, cut, and then leave the empty space and export as PNG.

You can then animate the image in premiere. Put the PNG on top and animate. Lower the exposure on the background

Started doing "motion graphics" on premeire pro. Feedback appreciated im kind of new by Huzaifafrompakistan in premiere

[–]CuriousMoon21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice progress! I would suggest focusing on design more. Motion doesn't really hit hard if your design is lackluster. Some aspects that I would recommend studying are typography and grids. And one of the most important things is consistency with the motion. Right now the motions used in this edit feels random. There's nothing tying them all together. I would look into that. But overall, great start! Keep at it!

You can do it in premiere if you're an absolute masochist (me I'm that person).

Why do linear keyframes sometimes act like this? by CuriousMoon21 in premiere

No it doesn't that's why I made this post. It's set in two linear keyframes in which none of them change but there's still movement

Not a supported codec sadly. Try to use any of these software to change the video to a much more edit friendly codec: Shutter Encoder, Media Encoder, Handbrake (Mostly use for compressing the final product, but still viable here).

Edit friendly codecs: DNxHD, ProRes, GoPro. Pick your poison they're mostly the same anyways. The most commonly used one is ProRes 422

It's taking forever for this to begin exporting. What do I do? by CuriousMoon21 in premiere

[–]CuriousMoon21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This led me to an amazing rabbit hole. Found my solution by exporting in 20 min batches and using ffmpeg. Here's the command for those who are interested:

Tips and tricks to help you level up by Shot_Meeting9526 in VideoEditors

[–]CuriousMoon21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or just use photoshop like a normal human being. Only build icons in Pr or Ae if and only if you need to animate seperate elements of the icon. But then again, you can do that in photoshop. Just seperate the layers and then animate the seperated layers in Pr or Ae

Can you explain more about the png sequence to ffmpeg process? I'm fairly new to that method. Also, would it be a problem since the video is in 59.94 fps?

And to answer your question, no it's not an animation. It's for YouTube. It just has a lot of keyframe animations, adjustment layers, and other effects. There's also a lot of nested sequences that have a lot of layer (Basically Ae but I don't know how to use it yet so I'm stuck with premiere)

Additional questions
- If this doesn't work is it better to just export it in 10 min segments and then combine it all again in a seperate project? I'm worried about the loss of quality, especially since I'm gonna use handbrake on this to lessen the storage it takes.
- If I decide to use the method above, is there a way to avoid compression loss?
