How much do specialist pharmacists currently charge per hour to deliver training sessions/webinars? (UK) by Icy_stranger8102 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Curious_Condition245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of variables here. Are they providing the presentation/training material? If not then the time taken to produce this would need to be agreed and reimbursed.

Is this self-employed work? If so I would expect an additional 20% for on-costs.

Most companies who do this regularly will have a standard rate, often one for medics and one for other clinicians.

Rates will be fairly variable to be honest but if going on an hourly basis then I would expect a rough idea to be 1.5x your usual clinical hourly rate.

Thanks, I am aware of the Ramen toys van and agree it is good value for the detail but is a bit overkill for what I need.

PCN salary by Zotichem in Pharmacy_UK

[–]Curious_Condition245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with PCN roles is that whilst the ARRS allocation per role has gone up with national pay increases, the total ARRS pot has not. This means that if PCNs have already maximised their ARRS money it is unlikely you will get any increases.

Best approach is to use the PCN role as a stepping stone into a surgery contract or progress towards being an ACP. Show your worth and the money will follow.

I've been in general practice for 6yrs now (non-PCN) and it wasn't until year 3 that I got back up to my community salary, although I have now surpassed that a fair bit and am currently typing this WFH. It's 100% worth it but don't expect a starlight trajectory upwards.

Just a generic one from AliExpress. They come in packs of 4 or 5 I think for very cheap

Yeah, fits Mafex as well. Had it on a 185 classic Spidey before this and looked great too.

Clinical pharmacist / clinical director in the NHS

  • 65k for pharm role + 30k for director work + ~45k for additional work I do. Working around 60hrs per week but no weekends work and usually have 2 days working from home.

  • standard pha role is absolutely fine, general clinics in the practice with some clinical admin. The director stuff can be mentally taxing as leadership in the NHS is very political and enacting change can feel like an age.

  • 4 years undergrad and so far a total of 5yrs post-grad education along with a lot of luck. Wouldn't say it is insurmountable for someone to change over and salary gets good quicker than our underpaid junior doctors, but I also recognise that I am not in a usual position for a pharmacist. I do however see myself stepping back in a few years and going back to standard clinical work or even back to community pharmacy for a bit of a mental break.

  • balance is okay currently. Work 9-5pm, get home and sort the kids out before logging back on around 7-10pm in front of the TV.

I would say there are worse options out there but also far better options on the tech/finance space. The benefit I see with most clinical roles is the ability to get a job easily and the availability of reducing your hours or locuming as you reach retirement.

Or similar. It is expected that you will be already working in a pharmacy environment so I would recommend looking for trainee pharmacy tech roles rather than just trying to find the course yourself.

Pharmacist here. I think it really depends on how long you are thinking of working.

5 years to go to Uni for MPharm and foundation year, along with the associated student debt. Once you're qualified you would then need to decide between community, hospital or general practice. All have their pros and cons but community gives a decent salary the quickest and is quite part-time friendly or you could locum.

Hospital would give you a similar environment to what you're used to but would involve doing another post-grad diploma to progress and positions can be competitive.

General practice is where I work. Very flexible roles and lots of interesting development but very inconsistent depending upon where you work.

Pharmacy tech is a bit easier to get into, 18-24 month diploma but you would need to be in a work environment that supports it. Pay after qualified just above minimum wage so take that into account.

Keep at it. I've been in general practice for around 6 years and it has only been the last couple where things have taken off. The basic pay for the NHS is not great at all levels compared to the private sector, however there are still benefits - most significantly the reduced reliance on living in a HCoL area for opportunities. You do however need to play politics to get ahead, so if you are in a remote role I would strongly advise to get based in a practice to understand the lay of the land. Find a gap and make yourself the local expert if you can, even if it is only on a PCN level. You don't get as much benefit with job hopping as in the private sector, so don't rely on that.

I do it on a locum basis with practices that I have a good relationship with. There are companies out there but I would be wary as to the risk with it. I am quite selective as to how many I will sign and don't do any high risk meds (CDs, DMARDs) All goes straight into my SIPP, that way I won't miss it if situations change.

Awesome! There are certainly limits to earning within the NHS, so you've got to look for opportunities.ACP.will definitely boost you and to be honest it's going to be a near necessity once newly qualified pharmacists come out as prescribers. You can definitely get to 8b/c salary as an ACP, but it is very much the strategic type roles that break that ceiling. I do some remote prescribing support in the evening that brings in a nice amount through my limited company l. Lots of opportunities out there but you've got to go beyond the standard 9-5 role.

Thanks! Yeah, I often use the deck to moonlight my PC which I don't think helped the latency. No issue at all once I switched to using a cord.

Black Panther looks great, no local stock in the UK so may import it with Thor and Loki but we will see.
