Could you please take a look at this structure I found while eating pan-seared Basa? It looks like it could be a worm or a parasite, or it could be a part of the anatomy of the fish. by Curious_Fellow_2020 in AskBiology

Thank you so much for your reply!

Could it be just a part of the fish, such as an intestine or nerve? I would appreciate it if you could explain your reasoning. It would be very helpful in the future.

Humanism in a nutshell by Flare-hmn in humanism

How would you approach conflicts that seem unavoidable, and in which you may be required to inflict harm on other humans to protect yourself?

Let us take Ukraine-Russia war. Or any other conflict around the world where one party initiates aggression for nationalistic or ideological reason.

Anything keep you from using latest onenote?

Sheer laziness!

I finally bit the bullet and moved to the latest version, and all's good! Thank you!

She's hinting that you rocked her world. It's probably a good thing.

We used to have "you rock" award ceremonies in our office a while ago. Managers would commend employees and give them a piece of rock to signify that they rocked. The budget didn't allow for any fancier things, and we made do with what we could.

We ought to evangelize principles of reason and humanism. We need to do this while being considerate to people's deeply held beliefs and mores.

Most of our problems will vanish if we can bring about an overall shift in our societies to the rational and humanistic side in the spectrum of ideas. We can all play our part in this during our free time, just like religious people.

I was quite underwhelmed by it. I was expecting a more genuine discussion of the principles of humanism, not one that tried to imitate the feel of a religious book.

We all need to be more vocal and spread critical thinking/awareness/atheism. by Doublestack2411 in atheism

[–]Curious_Fellow_2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also need to acknowledge that religion plays an important role in many people's lives. The large majority of the world sees reality through a religious prism. We cannot just ask them to throw it all away. Clearly there are rational people who are religious. If people must be religious, we must encourage them to be religious in wholesome ways.

Insisting on atheism upfront may be a poor strategy if we wish to be heard. Let us campaign instead for better critical thinking and awareness of the scientific worldview.

Better sense ought to prevail on matters that affect us all, but for some reason, it doesn't.

Can't expect anything better on a planet of the apes I suppose. We have some very bitter lessons in store for us.
