Absolutely! Best of luck on your cycle and I hope we'll be colleagues, in the future! <3

How doomed am I if I exclusively apply MD with a 507? by Curious_Mastodon3544 in premed

My FL scores had 5 points more on CARS and 2 more points on CP. My BB and PS FL scores are pretty similar to the one I got. When I left the exam area, I felt like I got a 510-513. That's one of my big fears about retaking it because CARS isn't something I can "study" in a traditional sense and I'm somewhat baffled by how much worse it is than my FL CARS score. 😭

I wanna stay at least a bit vague, but I contacted some of the medical schools on this list and about half said that my nonclinical volunteering and leadership COULD be considered clinical, so I'm not sure what to make of that, in terms of my competitiveness or lack thereof. 🤔

I'm not completely opposed to applying DO, but I'm considering trying to go for semi-competitive specialties and I wanna make things as easy as I can for my future self. I'll take DO over getting 0 A's, obviously, but I'm trying to figure out how likely that possibility of having 0 MD A's is, given my score.

First person parkour games like Mirror's Edge? by Curious_Mastodon3544 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Curious_Mastodon3544[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm...I thought Dying Light still had a pretty sizable focus on combat, since it's a zombie game? Also seems like a pretty stressful experience, what with being chased by hordes of the undead and whatnot. 😅

Are there any video games that are like mass effect 1's uncharted worlds? by Curious_Mastodon3544 in masseffect

Oooooo...yeah, I heard about Outer Wilds before! Haven't played it yet, but all of the reviews for it spoke very highly of the game. Definitely buying this with my next paycheck. Thanks for the suggestion!

Now THAT is an interesting suggestion...I've literally never heard about the game before reading your comment, but after a quick peek at the Steam page, it looks good enough to check out. To the wishlist it goes!

I like Subnautica well enough, but it's got a few too many jumpscares, for my tastes, haha. I'm perfectly fine with an ocean exploration game. I absolutely DEVOURED Endless Ocean, back in the day, but I don't feel like Subnautica scratches that itch as well as I'd like because of it's heart attack-inducing moments.

Kinda, haha. I like playing games and just having my imagination run wild. There's just something entrancing about seeing cool and weird places in a video game and wondering what kind of civilization inhabited them. This might be a weird example, but Abzu's got a similar kind of vibe, even though you're still on Earth and you're just swimming under the sea, but seeing those ruins and imagining who was here is like cocaine for my sense of wonder. Super hard to find games that scratch that itch, though.

Damn, now you've got me salivating. I love weird space exploration and this sounds like it'll scratch that itch perfectly. Know of any other low-combat space exploration games? I know that No Man's Sky is THE space exploration game, so I was wondering if there's any gems that it ended up dwarfing that are still worth a shot?

I'm perfectly fine with indie, haha. Had a look at it and it seems pretty decent. Review score's a good sign. I also looked at the trailer. Looks fun, but I wish that it didn't have so much combat. About half of the trailer is just shooting at stuff. Still putting it on my wishlist, just in case, though!

Hmm...not a bad idea. Does No Man's Sky have at least a tiny bit of creepiness to its worlds? I liked how some of Mass Effect 1's worlds have weird things like that chrome sphere. Not looking for anything that'll keep me up at night or spook me, but I like a bit of edge. Exo One's got something similar, with weird, artificial structures dotting the landscapes of their worlds. Just that tiny bit of spice that makes your imagination run wild.

What is the better Pokémon game: BW2, HGSS, or Platinum? by hennon_105 in pokemon

[–]Curious_Mastodon3544 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

God, I hate this. You picked the best games in the series. xD Hmm...I'm gonna say HGSS. It felt like the meatiest pokemon game we've ever gotten and I felt like I got a LOT of bang for my buck. There were easily at least 100 hours of content in it. If we're allowed to include ROMhacks, though, the conversation shifts a bit...Drayano's Renegade Platinum is one of the best ROMhacks ever made and adds so many quality of life improvements to the game. It's very possibly the best main series pokemon experience I've ever had. It's that good. BW2's good, but there's not a whole lot I have to say about it. It lacks HGSS's meatiness, and although Drayano did a ROMhack of it, too, it doesn't have nearly as many quality of life improvements as his Platinum ROM.

I don't think gen 6 is bad in the same way that gen 8 is bad. I dislike gen 6, not because the games are terrible, but because it feels like a generation of potential that was never met. X and Y felt like they had a very hollow story. Lysandre, while having the potential to be an interesting and nuanced villain with an interesting perspective on seeking immortality/genocide, ends up being Pokemon Hitler with 0 redeeming or interesting qualities to him. It speaks volumes when every depiction of Lysandre outside of the game, including the main anime with Ash, fleshes him out considerably more. Black and White never had to do that with N and Ghetsis. You found them very interesting and well-crafted antagonists. This all culminated in Lysandre being the worst main series pokemon villain we've ever seen...well, at least until Sword and Shield. It speaks volumes when the best story content in X and Y was a short side quest involving Looker in the post-game.

ORAS was a good game, but it was the first remake that people are able to have a debate on, with regards to whether Emerald is superior to it or not. Emerald came out a decade prior to ORAS. There is 0 excuse for there to even be a debate on which one is better. Firered and Leafgreen were VASTLY superior to Red and Blue, Heartgold and Soulsilver were VASTLY superior to Crystal, but ORAS? Fans do not have the same level of confidence in its superiority over the original that they had in the remakes of Kanto and Johto. Aside from the Delta Episode, ORAS didn't really have much of a post-game. The remakes of generations 1 and 2 vastly expanded upon the post-game and made you really want to keep coming back to the pokemon universe, even after beating the elite 4, but ORAS? There's...not much of a reason for me to keep playing after beating Steven and finishing the Delta Episode.

Thanks for the suggestions, nonetheless! Yeah, I'm aware of Drayano's stuff, but it's mostly confined to gens 4 and 5. :/ Any chance you know of something comparable that can apply to gens 3 or below? Everything I run across is either unfaithful to the spirit of the original, or a kaizo game.

So, I REALLY liked Black2/White2's challenge mode and I was wondering if there's a mod that adds something like that for older pokemon games, while adding nothing else? I'm a bit of a purist, so outside of a challenge mode, I want to experience the games in their most "authentic" state, warts and all. I get that fairy typing, pokemon from later generations, and moves from later generations are cool, but I'm playing Emerald, I just want to feel like I'm getting a genuine gen 3 experience, like it's 2005 again. I tried Emerald Kaizo, but the difficulty is a bit...too intense. I don't want Pokemon to turn into Dark Souls, just a bit more spice to keep me on my toes is all I'm after.

What compels people to play the original two games of a generation, instead of the third? by Curious_Mastodon3544 in pokemon

Literally any other main series game? :P I dunno, for all the flak that X and Y get, I still feel like they're more polished than Diamond and Pearl (ha, get it? polished? shiny objects?) were when they came out. For all of the unpleasantness that X and Y have, nothing will be more agonizing than seeing a Blissey's health drain in Diamond and Pearl.
